You could try your local university student union. Freshers week is nearing.
Hand business cards out on the high street/outside busiest shops. I say business cards, as I find people tend to keep them in their wallets or coat pockets- whereas anything larger it gets chucked.
An instagram promotion (I find better results if it is done via Facebook and i just click the 'promote on instagram' option.
Gumtree I find can bring decent clients I set myself apart from the rest with a featured ad and I present it as a high end service.
Get a website and research how to seo, I find within months, you can get high up on the google search results. This brings in the most clients for me organically.
Twitter is good also. I just type in 'hair (city you are based) and answer peoples worries about hair. I often tweet my blog posts from my website, with the direct link.
Wearing your work uniform with logo and contact number, when you are out on errands. People tend to stop me and it equals bookings. Autumn is approaching, so I am going to get my details printed onto my coat hahaha!
There are many creative ways, my top tip is to target people with more disposable income, but the key is to charge appropriately for you market. If prices are tad too low, potential clients get put off and work can be slower. I charge by the half hour instead of a fixed fee, this has attracted clients who value my worth. I lost a few clients when I changed over, however I now work fewer hours for a larger profit margin. Become a specialist and blast this where and whenever you can. I am a specialist in hair loss, I provide services for people with alopecia, male, female, young and the wiser. Depending on their lifestyle I recommend which method is best for their management such as hair integration systems, hair extensions, braids, dreadlocks and natural hair. I charge for consultations (the very few in my area) yet clients are happy as they understand I do not just provide a style like the rest of the stylists they have previously been to. Be known as the expert in the field and clients will snowball in eventually. Over Eid I was major busy I had to turn clients away. One client referred me from that I gained over 30 clients! 4 are currently growing out a fade so they can get their hair braided too! My next training is barbering. As I find my male clients always need a fade or a trim and are forever asking me haha.
I have 3 children all with additional needs 13 months, 6 years and 13 years. Things will pick up keep going after the clients who need your service and skills and aren't afraid to book in!
