have been reading all i can about eyelash extension training, noticed a few of the posts said it took between 30-40 sets before they felt their work was faultless
did you actually apply the sets on 40 individual people? or on model heads also ? ?and were they full sets or a mixture of full / demi etc ? did you improve with each set you applied, and what is it you are actually improving on - appearance of the lashes, time it takes you to apply? i realise that with all new training you have to practice, practice, practice - it took about 30 make up applications for me to become condident in my abilities but at least if i made a mistake i could wipe it away and start again, im a little concerned that making a mistake whilst applying eyelash extensions is a little more permanent - im going to struggle to find 40 odd people to practice on, without sending them away with wonky eyelashes
also, how did you charge for your practice sets ? i really dont think i could charge the paying public until i was 100% confident, i think i would just practice on family and friends and ask for a small donation for time and materials
any feedback on the above would be much appreciated, as im about to book my training .. excited, but very very nervous about the above!

You def need to be putting lashes on actual clients. Its the only way to build your confidence with differant eyelashes and eye shapes etc. I think I was a slow learner as it took me a GOOD 40 sets before I felt worthy of payment. I used to ask people for £10 to cover costs. Then I went to £30, then my normal prices. I dont think you ever stop learning either, I feel I learn something with every set I do.

Im with cabinkel on this every set i do i learn more and more, I do alot of lashes and still to this day find my work gets better with each set, if thats just shaving a few mins here or there or more confidence in different lashes and eyeshapes etc.

I do not think that practicing on dummy heads and strip lashes really helps, they are nothing like natural lashes, i started off charging £30 for 3 hrs and then up again to £50 when i was able to do a set in 2 hrs and then to my prices as they are now.

dummy heads are only really used for intial training purposes to get you use to isolating the eyelash, getting the feel of holding the tools and basic application.

You wont spend too long on a dummy head before moving onto a model as the eyelashes of those on a dummy are completely different.

It will come with practise and you will take something new from each new set, i would probably think it will take a good 6 months before your really settling into being confident, there is no set amount of clients or time, it depends on you.... how much of a natural you may or may not be, how much time you can commit to practise, how motivated each time your head drops to crack back on and get the job done.

thanks as always for your prompt replies ..
oh well i'll have plenty of time to practice whilst im on mat leave and hopefully be confident enough to start charging the general public when i start trading again - plan to take 9 mths off, so will practice on as many friends / family members as possible !

Get as many practicies as you can. Re-do the same person the following week if necessary ie infill her! Obviously 20 or 30 people with different eyes/lashes will give you more experience, but it really doesn't matter if you only have 5 people to practice on. The important thing is to get the practice on a live person.

Remember if you make a mess of them, you have remover, take pictures then just take them off and re-do them another day! You can look back on the photos and learn from them.

Charge from the off even as mentioned before if its only £10.00 to cover some of your costs, increase as you get more on.

Good luck and enjoy your course!
