I was just thinking about how people work as mobile technicians
Do you run your business from your home or go to clients houses? I will be going to peoples houses once fully trained but was just thinking of what equipment you need for this, do you work at a normal kitchen table or something? also the smells of the L&P for acrylic, are customers happy to have the smells in their home?
Sorry for the questions and if they sound silly...this is all new to me.

no question is a silly question!

Ok, first things first, why are you becoming mobile? is it fit around your life? children? other job?

i started out mobile but now own my own salon.

when i started out i had a fold up table and two fold up chairs. I didnt like to use the clients table in case i knocked monomer or polish over and wrecked them(am terrible clumsy)

I had
towels, kitchen roll. hand sanitiser. client consult cards. my kit bag, and also my manicure bag and also plastic boxes, one for all my used wipes etc so that i could take everything home and dispose it it instead of leaving it at the clients house and risking odours. with polishes etc kept separate. I also had a bag for each treatment. lashes, waxing etc etc so i could keep tabs on everything. I had bags galore!!!

the other box contained my barbicide solution, so i could re sterilise my metal implements between clients.

I got fed up of that eventually and bought lots of metal implements that i could use on each client and sterilise at home.

I also used (still do) mundo file sanitiser so that i could keep my files clean but again I also had loads of files and cleaned and cleaned and sprayed them when i got home.

It was a bind having to lug about lots of things, but I did.

I never had people come to me as I have 4 children and I felt that it was much better for me to go to them...... I still a bit of mobile if we have a poorly client. But I prefer to be salon based.

Hi Tigi

Thank you soo much for this, I would like to have my own salon in the future but for the time being i will have to go mobile as yes i have 2 toddlers who are both now in pre-school for a couple of mornings. I have no childcare so my own salon is out of the question at the mo.
I can imagine the amount of stuff, lotions & potions you have to lug around & it does worry me a bit... did you charge extra if you had to travel further?

i used to charge a further flat rate on top if it was more than 7 miles, but to be honest i didnt get a lot of enquiries out of my area and i was busy enough covering my own little patch!
