Hi

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong. I just can't seem to get a solid colour. I prep the nail by removing the cuticle (I use cuticle away by CND) I remove the shine and I use scrubfresh. I apply the ibd bonder and cure for 1 minute. I then apply the clear gel and cure. I remove the sticky residue and etch the nail. I then apply athin layer of colour and cure for 30 seconds. NOW COMES THE BIT I CAN"T SEEM TO GET RIGHT. I apply a second layer of colour and make sure it's not on the eponichium and not too close to skin on sidewalls of nails. I then cure for 3 minutes. When I take the nails out, they look uneven in colour and I get some that runs onto the skin at the sidewalls. (how do you remove that once gel has cured)?

Thanks geeks

xx

hi hun, are you using the soak off gels?

if you are you can apply a thin layer of colour cure for 30 seconds and then the same with the next layer, and the next ...etc

This way you build up the colour without the risk of overloading the nail with gel that runs into the cuticle etc. you get an even coverage too.

You do have to keep each layer very thin tho then cure for 3 mins when you have the colour depth you require. Do one or two nails at a time not 4.

Any gel in the sidewall are is best filed away and file the whole nail, re apply you top coat to seal.

I wouldn't remove the inhibition layer before adding your colour. I would apply the colour straight away onto the clear while it's still sticky .. then your colour will adhere better to the nail.

Apply two thin layers and if you get any on the skin or cuticle try to clean that up before you cure or you will get lifting, maybe run a toothpick around the edges before curing

HTH:hug:

Thank you.

Do you still etch the nail if you apply the colour onto the clear gel when it's still tacky?

Thanks for the toothpick tip. I will try that tomorrow and also the thin layers and curing for 30 secs inbetween. I think I was putting the second layer way too thick. Lots of thin coats makes more sense.

I use soak off by the way. Sorry forgot to mention that one LOL xx

If I was doing them I would buff the nail (no need to etch).. just take the shine off the nail and then dust and apply your primer.

Then the clear gel... kinda work that into the nail as opposed to polish style application.... cure for 2 mins.

I would then apply the colour in a very thin layer and cure for 2 mins... as far as I know you can't part cure soak off gel so I would give that another 2 mins... (I may be wrong with this, but that's the way I would do it)...apply the next layer and get the consistency right and cure for 2 mins again.. then a layer of clear and cure for 2 mins again.

Ibd soak off gel needs thin bonder first then the clear as you have been doing.

You can leave the sticky layer and apply the colour if the gel is a good shape otherwise you can wipe the sticky layer off and buff the clear to perfect it.

Then apply your colour in thin coats and cure for 30 seconds and then the final coat for 3 mins. This is how ibd trained me.

Then finish with a layer of clear gel to seal. Wipe off sticky layer to finish.

If you try to do the second layer not so think and then 3mins cure, that would be better, its just down to practice. It saves time too.

ibd soak off is definately a 3 min cure gel.

Sorry about that... I don't use IBD and was giving the wrong curing times...

Let us know how you get on by the way...
