Hi

I offer 20% off the clients next treatment if they recommend a friend to the salon but i dont see this being a success.

should i offer a free treatment that wont cost me much, like an eyebrow wax or file and paint?

How about giving money off? Rather than saying 20% say £5 off (or whatever)
I never take any notice of % but thats just me.
I wouldnt offer anything free for recommending a friend. It can make us look desperate.
Also if you do offer free treatments, you will have to offer the cheapest. People may not want that type of treatment. By giving £5 off they can choose anything from your price list and you still make some money.
Just my opinion though xxx

I don't think clients feel comfortable about being "paid" to recommend their friends. It is just comments that I have picked up on over the years that has led me to think this.
I think the answer is along the lines of your clients feeling they have "discovered" you and making them want to share this "success" with their friends. It's difficult to put into words how this is acheived.
When I formalised a rec a friend scheme, we found that referrals dropped. When we stopped it, they rose.
I'm not really explaining myself very well.

I think you right on this one. People can see £5 better than a percentage. x

In my opinion its always nicer to offer something free rather than money off. You will lose a lot of money if you keep discounting your treatments. I did recommend 5 friends and get a free treatment worth....Its also nice to give clients an affordable (to you) goodie bag also.

But you are still making money by discounting treatments...but making nothing for giving them for free :irked: xxx

Do you really need a recommend a friend scheme? If you are good and your clients like you they will recommend you anyway.

Why not put a loyalty scheme in place instead as a thankyou for being such a loyal client. 10 appointments and receive a back massage free with your next treatment?
