Hi all.
I have never used an airbrush before. My mum bought me the Rio airbrush kit from argos. When I got it I read all the instructions, watched the dvd, put it together and I just couldnt get it to work. My mum took it back and got another one. Same thing, I couldnt get any paint into the tube. Am I being completly stupid? Does anyone use this type of airbrush? Please help.

Sorry that you are having this trouble but this is a site for professionals and nobody here would use that type of kit. HTH

I agree rio's kits are very much home based and to tell the truth the air brush system is very much there worst item, if you can take it back and save your money its much better spent somewhere else sorry to dissapoint you

I started my airbrushing career with a Rio Airbrush.

It was good to get me going but I soon bought a professional system and a compressor. It clogged very easily.

You may need to try thinning the paint down, have you placed the airtank in a jug of cold water to get the pressure? I found tying it down helped as it keeps floating to the top. Can u get water to spray through the nozzle? Are you getting air thru the brush, you will hear a definite hissing if it is.

Hope this has helped.

i had one before i got into nail professionally and i managed to get mine to work once so i gave up and sold it to a friend who has never even used it herself.
it was more hassle than it was worth because i got through so much propellant trying to get it work that it wasnt worth the money.
i would get rid of it if i was you and buy a proper one as you will never learn how to do it properly using the rio one.xx

An experienced airbrusher would be able to make this work! The only real difference is the fact that it doesn't have a compressor. The airbrush is just a cheaper version of all pro models.

Put all of this equipment and products with an efficient compressor and some good training the results will be good!

As with everything, it's all about training. And I'm sure there are many 'professionals' using 'this type of equipment'! A skilled person can make anything work for them.

This is just another example of a retail kit that is unsuccessful without proper training.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I understand its not a professional tool. I just dont have the heart to tell my Mum its rubbish. :)

I think the reason a professional wouldn't use a piece of equipment like this is because as a professional you would seek the best tools for the job...to get the best results and not have to waste time and money tinkering with something that no matter how good you are just isn't up to the job.

You could file nails with sandpaper from B&Q if you knew what you were doing but you wouldn't when you can buy quality professional files that get the job done better and quicker.

Just give your mum a hug and say thanks for trying to help...mums never hold grudges...

I agree im sure your mum would want to spend money on something that would help rather than something that will sit in the cupboard just explain your reasoning and ask her to put the money towards something that will help you not hinder you i'm sure she will understand
