shellac & nail art ????

hi ,
yet another shellac question,,
now i know the you can use nail art pens and then top coat with shellac but is it also ok to use other brands of nail polish for either full nail colour or just nail art aswell then shellac over???,
and can u use any form of nail art product with the shellac???
i know that the shellac is a complete nail system and i love it!!!
but i like to play around and experiment and i have seen people that say they shellac over minx aswell xx

I've painted flowers over shellac with acrylic paint and oil paint which are a bit thicker which I use for 3d effect

In the new CND brochure there is some examples for nail art using shellac, you cure after the nail art instead of before, so example base coat, cure, colour cure, colour then ur nail art(using shellac shades) then cure, topcoat cure. I've been doing it a few months now and seems to work a treat and clients love it!
