Shellac nails

Hi I'm new to this site but wanted advice from others. I do my own shellac nails,if I put shellac on a tip extension I need a layer of gel to build n strengthen the nail before applying the shellac. What I want to know is do I just leave the gel as a layer or does it need filing first around the edges to stop it lifting? Thanks

If you have not trained in mani/pedi & gel enhancements then you will not get any advice from here on how to do DIY nails.
