Site reputation awards..do you give them for the right reasons?

I was going through the process of self teaching earlier today so I get a better understanding of all the many buttons and options on this site to see if I can become better versed in how to do things.(hopefully one day I might just get the spell check jobby working :o)

Now I know I am slower than most on this site so this must be obvious to most of you but maybe other geeks might also learn a bit from your flood of responses.

So I found I had been given some rep points with comments as to why they had been awarded....wow what a great idea:idea: and thank you to anyone who has been so kind as to do so:hug:...told you I was slow!!

My question is
"Do you award rep points to a fellow Geek for the right reasons and are the awards monitored by the Mod's to ensure they are justified"
(that must be an amazingly lengthy daily task)

The rep system has been set up so that you cannot rep the same person again without having spread the lurve around to (I think) another 10 people.

This is supposed to stop people only repping their friends unless they have loads of friends and spread the lurve LOL.

The negative rep system was disabled some time ago because people were abusing it and also people were getting upset sometimes.

I always rep if somebody has given some fab information, made me really laugh, or generally contributed well for everyones benefit. I think its a great system. When I first joined this site, the peoples whos opinion I sort most were the ones with mega rep points, as obviously their opinion is valued!

You can't tell the number of points, but the number of little blue boxes in the RH corner are a good indication. Or you can click on members' list and then click on reputation and it should bring up in order who has the most rep!

To be honest i hardly ever look to see who has given me a rep, and if im totaly honest i forget its there!

I read, I reply and give to the best of my knowledge the best advice I can, if someone finds it usefull then thats brill but i dont do it in the hope i get a rep.

click on the green button on the RHS at the top of the relevant post - if you hover over it is says "add to someone's reputation" (I think!)
