I've had a few newbies come to me over time, that are now my regulars.
Some from nail bars that are CLEARLY NSS and some from techs out of salons or whatever that seem on the up and up... but...

Anyway.. several of these particular newbies said that her tech always soaked her nails a bit before filing:eek:. Not soaked them off, just softened them up???
This is not the first time I've heard of this. It baffles me.
Another said she'd soak, then the tech would file, then soak some more, then file some more......

It sounds so very wrong to me. Now, I haven't done my L&P, so I clearly don't know all the in's and out's of it.
But, my concern was that this frequent soaking is A) not good for the client's skin B) not good for the enhancements either.
I would think it would weaken the enhancement and lead to breakdown of the product and be cause for more frequent lifting etc?

Is this another lazy tech approach? Is this very common?

I know I've heard of it about 10 times now.

The most recent one said she was SURE that the tech wasn't using that MMA garbage... and that her tech said so. BUT.....
What's the deal?

just think of all those gooey files....

it would cause break down of the enhancement and so isn't the norm to do this.

yeah, it does weaken the enhancement, but it does make filing easier/quicker... :| (not that I do this on clients!!!)

surely if you are using a quality product there would be no need...how can it be easier/quicker...it sounds messier...more timely...and unnecessary. why soak, file, soak, file when you can just file (ohh and don't apply so much in the first place.......during a re balance are we not only taking off what we are re-appying...?)

The only time i have done the file, soak, file, soak is when REMOVING a set of MMA nails.

lol...

as I said I don't use this. but I admit that when I soak off my own nails, when I'm impatient, I let them for a while in my remover, then file what leaves, and soak off again... then I need a little less time. (well ok I confess that's just because I can't stay like that waiting and my fingers dipping...)

yes it must be messier for an infill... definatly!! (no idea of the spelling of this word lol) but I don't understand this way of doing... I'm just doing it the way I was taught, which is Gigi's way (tho learnt it elsewhere)

MMA nails... what a PITA... thank God here I never came across any myself :)

Ok, it's as I thought.

Yup, apparently these "techs" do this at every infill/rebalance.
I thought it sounded mad..

I can understand if you're soaking the whole set off, "now and then" or for MMA nails and you want to speed up the REMOVAL of the product.
But for infills or balances... it's nuts.

Glad to know I'm not crazy and I was right in my way of thinking.

THANKS

they do it because that crap is so hard to file, what they fail to realise (or don't care about is) when you soak, it also effects the underside, not just the surface ..... go figure .....,but nothing would surprise me anymore

Just to add to this... MMA does not soak easily.. i hate the stuff.. with passion...
that idea sounds like madness to me.
