Hi ladies

As anyone suffererd/suffers with this? Or had to give up work because of this?

Iv noticed in the last month my left hand in my thumb & index finger, they started to twitch and my thumb knuckle felt stiff & cracks. It's my left hand that holds my clients hand steady during painting/filing etc.

Well these last couple of week my thumb knuckle has now become slightly swollen and sore and even more stiff, if I try & use it when it goes like this I get shooting pains.

Is this the onset of Arthritis? Obviously if it gets any worse I'm going the Dr's but just wondered if anyone else has this? I don't want to give my job up but at the same time I'm not willing to risk my health any further (already on tablets/seeing specialists for menstral migraines)

Just me then lol

Hi Becky, no I don't think it is just you :) I think its quite common to develop certain aches and pains which sometimes you can't do things to prevent them ie. Keeping your back straight when doing massage will prolong your life as a massage therapist. If its really painful perhaps visit your doctor? My knees have cracked and creaked since I was young and I am only 25 now! I don't really know what the cause is xx

Sounds like a little RSI. I have had 2 steroid injections in my elbow in the last few months due to nerve damage caused by doing nails by putting too much pressure on my arms, leaning on my table! (This problem I
have has been brewing for years though, unbeknown to me!) I would recommend anti-inflammatorys or a little deep heat for targeted relief.rest (if possible!) & perhaps changing your working position e.g elevating your clients hand, taking the pressure off of you. I've been working with a gel pad under my arm, which has worked wonders for me! Look after yourself!! Obviously if pain persists & gets worse take a little trip to your docs X

It could also be tendinitis. I had this in my thumb and it was nothing nice. You should get it checked though because you may need a thumb splint to limit movement. You don't have to give up your job but if you don't get it checked it may take longer to heal. My thumb if I use it too much it gets swollen and sore but I put on my thumb splint and stop the activity and ice it and it gets better but please get it checked ASAP and tell them to give you anti inflammatory medication.

I have exactly the same thing it is so weird we have the same issue

Not alone! I've been a manicurist for over 25 years, two weeks ago my left hand suddenly went numb from the pinky to half my middle finger and I have very little strength in it. The nerve is pinched somewhere between my neck and my elbow. I'm having a massage therapist work it out, buts its rough. I have made some changes to rectify this, it just seems like when I fix one issue it causes another...
