I did a spray tan today and the client said she hadn't exfoliated prior and also had remainder of previous tan. I explained that the new tan will probably be patchy and was reluctant to go ahead however she insisted. I am now quite anxious as to how this will turn out and also that if it's bad that I will be portrayed badly. Whats the worst that could happen with this? Could any1 recommend some sort of natural skin prep if the client has failed to do this before turning up for their tan? I have been through loads of threads and picked up few tips on the way and I am sure i read somewhere something about lemon juice ??? I have also seen an exfoliation spritz which you can apply prior to tanning is this any good? Although i can't rem which supplier this was as i have researched so many!! Lol!! Also could any1 recommend good suppliers of sticky feet and hair caps which are reasonably priced? And last but not least can you mix different % solution from the same brand or had a better ask the manufacturer this one? I am using LA Tanning at the moment!! Thanks

Hi

Its a common problem, not preparing properly and then insisting you carry on.

Sienna x does an exfoliating spray (which I have, but I've never used so I can't tell you if it's any good) and I have also heard about pineapple juice and lemon (has to be fresh pineapple juice, not the concentrate stuff) which the person rubs all over their body, then they cover themselves in olive oil (I'm not sure if I just used olive, or that olive was obligatry, I imagine that any oil would work) then have a long hot bath. Slightly suspicious of this as both oil and hot baths strip tan but perhaps being sticky is amusing(?)

In answer to your initial problem I think for a short term solution, the Sienna exfoliating spray is the way forward. In my opinion.

Ideally i wanted something that could be applied and then the spray tan done immediately after (only for those that had failed to prepare the skin). I will have a look and see what I can find, thanks for your response.

Hi Sabrina,

I use Hideout before I spray anyone, whether they say they have exfoliated or not. Oils and sweat and other things can accumulate on the skin surface between the time they have had the shower and the time they see me. Most of my clients do a pretty good job prepping their skin before they get to me, but a few have had issues in the past with not prepping. The Hideout does a great job helping to prevent an uneven tan, even on those who have not done what they were supposed to first. I would never recommend someone not prepping their skin first, but in the event they don't this should do the trick. I get this product direct from EnvyTan. They also carry Sole Patrols, which have tread on the bottom so you don't have to worry about liability issues. They are cushioned and can be worn home in place of shoes. EnvyTan is a one stop shop for everything spray tanning wise. They have all kinds of disposables, including hair-caps, nose filters, gloves, bras, panties briefs...everything. Hope this helps.

Hiya as has been mentioned Sienna X do a prep spray, which can be used immediately prior to the tan for those whose prep has been less than thorough!! Other companies also do buff wipes...I think tantrick and LA both do these, but I have the Sienna X spray as I felt this was better value for money.
I don't use sticky feet myself, I just use a dark towel and couch roll and don't have any problems....I bought my disposable caps (nice red ones) and thongs from ebay as these were much cheaper and let's face it a paper hat is a paper hat!!!

HTH Lou x

When i tested all my solutions, i deliberately didn't exfoliate beforehand and didn't moisturise after as i wanted a solution that still worked great with no prep. We all know clients don't follow our advice all the time
Some solutions i tried were shocking-lol
The solution i use still works great with no prep.
I remember a client once who turned up with a really bad tan. It was very patchy and she still had a lot of it still on. I told her it probably wouldn't cover it but she insisted i do it as she said it couldn't look any worse than it already was! It actually covered it really well and she was pleased and i was pleasantly surprised.
With regards to disposables-i use mob caps from ebay. Like loubilicious, i have nice red ones and buy them 500 at a time.
I get sticky feet from Ellisons and they come in packs of 100 pairs(not 100 feet-50 pairs-like most companies). They don't leave sticky bits on the feet either.
Disposable thongs i get from Capital hair and beauty. They come in packs of 50 and Capital always have a 'buy 4 get 1 free'.
You can mix different solutions from the same brand.
HTH :)

Makro do a 100pk of mob caps for about £2 + vat

Hi Angelina, may I ask what solution you use? Did I read somewhere that you use La Tan as well as another brand? I have just purchased LA Tan and didn't prep prior to tan for experimental reasons too and it's fading horrible, patchy, crocodile effect. I did let my mum spray me though, who had absolutely no idea, and the gun may not av been on the correct setting so maybe that contributes to it? Thanks for the info on the accessories I shall be getting me some of them x

Hi, I have managed to find the thread which i was talking about...will copy and paste for info.....hi I also use the sienna x solution. my sister is always coming round for a spray tan and has not exfoliated. I actually use lemon juice & water on my walk in clients, all you need to do is buy a bottle of lemon juice ( what you put on pancakes).
1/4 lemon juice and 3/4 water in the spray bottle
spray on to clients skin and then buff off with a large fluffy towel
it is a cheap yet good way to exfoliate the walk in clients. The tans always come out lovely. hope this helps good luck with tanning

I use Nouvatan. I have got the LA Tan 18% though. You're right it doesn't fade well!
Some of my clients wanted a darker solution and as Nouvatan only went up up 14%, i decided to get the 18% from LA Tan. My clients said it didn't fade as well too.
Fortunately Nouvatan have just bought out a 16% and i also have booster drops.
The LA Tan is ok for those that want it just for a night out but not for a tan to wear all the time.
My clients are used to Nouvatan so are used to their tan lasting on average 10 days, and also fading very well,so the LA Tan was not good for them.
I do use it though for people who want it just for the weekend-it's fine for that!
