Hi everyone
I just spray tanned a new client and i opened a new bottle of Couture Tanning solution and something happened that i've never seen before (client told me she was exfoliated/no lotions on) that when i spray tanned her back its like it didn't go ont the skin but sat on top and started to drip down... now its really hot here at the moment and it was warm in her house so i thought then it might be sweat as it happened behind her legs too... i did a second whizz around but turned down the tan and just sprayed very little solution with the air and on the third coating it looked way way better.

Also do you turn the nossle like horizontal/circle etc? for different parts of the body?

Has anyone ever experienced this and if so can you give me a bit of reassurance... i'm starting out - i guess she is my 10th client i've tanned.... so i'm really started and hoping to build up a client base....

thanks in advance.

Have you been trained to spray tan hun ?
welcome to the site by the way

Hi,
Ive been using for couture for 2 years, this has never happened with me before, and sweating wouldnt cause it to drip.
Due to the nozzle being turnt yes you do change the nozzle for what direction you want to spray in. Have you been trained? I would have thought you would have been told this within your training.

Hi there, thanks for the quick responce. Yes i've had two training courses both in the Carlton Institute of Beauty. This is just something i have never seen before! thanks for the welcome, i should have discovered this place a long time ago!

hi Violet star, yes i have been trained. It was a Couture trainer i had. she only mentioned changing the nosle for the part of the body but i find i adapt it to my own thought on the person... i always do two coats to ensure i've covered all parts of the body.

Ive now figured why its dripping, because your facing the nozzle the wrong way to the direction your spraying.

Hmm this is not particularly good to adapt it per person when changing the nozzle it should be based on which direction you are spraying
i.e when spraying down the legs you have the nozzle vertical as your spraying down method same goes for the back, front of arms, face and underarm.
When spraying across horizontal you have the nozzle facing horizontal i.e When spraying the torso, sides of the arms.

This is why the lotion drips and will tend to splat out!
Also there is no need for two coats hun as one coat does fine with all my clients and there are no patches, as long as you hold down the trigger at all times to keep a constant flow and check the client afterwards to see if their is any patches or missed areas.

If they are sweating quite a bit it will actually drip.
I've had a couple of clients that were sweating quite badly under their arms and the solution will drip down where the sweat is running.
This weather is not the best for spraying-lol.
I have a fan in my spray room to keep it as cool as possible but it's been so muggy the last couple of days that sometimes it's unavoidable.
Just try and blot as best you can and go over again.

I'm not a spray tanner yet, I'm training on 4th July, but I've been reading every thread I can find and, one of them mentioned about hair conditioner. The client was using dove shampoo and conditioner.
Client stood in the shower, with her back to the shower head, conditioner in hair gets rinsed of and slides of down the center of the back and hits the back of the knees to calves on its way down. She had already washed her body while the conditioner worked on her hair, Just a thought?

It does sound as though there is something on the skin which is causing the solution to glide off. Susies suggestion about conditioner sounds possible or maybe she had a body moisturiser/oil on, and this wasnt properly washed off her back and legs. x

sweating shouldn't be the cause...sounds more like something on the skin, conditioner from washing hair running down, moisturiser or maybe even some oil if she has had a massage recently and hasn't washed her behind thoroughly:hug:

Surely its because she was facing the nozzle the in opposite direction to what she is spraying?

here is a possible clue from the original posted question....."when i spray tanned her back its like it didn't go onto the skin but sat on top and started to drip down..."

If it was simply the nozzle at the wrong angle setting it would still not necessarily sit on the skins surface and the probable outcome would have been stripes...unless of course so much solution was applied..then the customer would have been really complaining of very dark stripey patches with drip marks where the solution ran down her back .

:idea:Further more the problem of solution pooling would have been on her front also

It could of course be many possibilities and you would need to have been there to see to get a definitive answer and we can only look at the description for possible clues .

Hmm yes, i was seeing it from a different point of view

e.g I saw it as she sprayed with the nozzle in opposite direction with allot of over spray would cause it to drip (more so if she was spraying close to the skin) and then wiped it off and then re-sprayed (as she mentioned she re-sprayed the client)

interesting. Last night one of the girls i did was very nervous. probably my 4th or 5th girl in. It was still warm but she started to shiver. Then it got worse and worse and her skin seemed to clam up and the soloution sat beading on her skin. I stopped and asked her how she felt and she wasnt shivering just cause she was cold. I explained i was worried but she wanted to continue so i did fairly quickly. finished, patted the areas most affected and then made sure she got a chocolate bar and calmed down. Her reaction certainly affected her skin.

It could be one of a number of possabilities....although if it were the nozzel position then one would have expected the same problem when she sprayed the front....also the problem would likley be with all customers..not just the back of one single customer.

Who knows and hopefully the customer is now a happy one

HI everyone, i text the client today and she said she was happy with the tan , the colour came out lovely. she had no lines and was not streaky... so relieved. Thanks for your advise and tips. will adapt my nossle for different parts of the body - normally just use it horizontally all the time!
