Hi Geeks

I'm not in the busines but love all things beauty related. I've enrolled myself in a Saturday class starting this weekend. I'm so excited. I honestly cannot wait.

The course is at Central College in Glasgow. The course description says:

This course will provide an introduction to various types of artificial nails, concentrating on developing the practical skills of gel nails.

You will learn the techniques of extending any length of nail by the use of a gel.

Does anyone have any advice to offer a newbie or know anything about the course? Obviously I don't think I'll be an expert by the end of the 6 weeks but it'll be great to learn the basics.

So excited!

Hi,

I have just read your other post. I was looking at the courses at central but dont think I could get childcare (and geeting up at 8 on a saturday!)
Central offer quite a lot of part time course at night in beauty and I am considering signing up for august.

Saks in glasgow dont offer beauty or didnt the last time I enquired also they offer nvq which isnt a scottish qualification and its too pricey as you have to pay it up front!

You mentioned the scottish beauty in Edinburgh, Caledonian academy will be there you can have a chat with them.

The scottish beauty school also offer courses which are quite reasonably priced and the offer svq/vtct courses.

I ll be at edinburgh was there last year take loads of money cause there are some great bargains to be had.

hope this helps

Hi

Giving up my Saturday lie in is not ideal but I thought it's only for 6 week. I can handle that. I'll just have to make up for it on Sunday.

Langside college also do quite a few courses starting in August but I live and work in the city centre so if I could get courses at Central then all the better.

I've never actually spoke to them at SAKS. The stuff in the website must be referring to salons down south.

What course are you thinking about doing in August?

Haven't had a proper look at the scottish beauty school website. Off to do that now.

Haven't heard anything about that particular school to be honest but just wanted to say good luck with it.

It's fab isn't it that bitter sweet feeling when a new course is coming up and you just can't wait?!

Joy x

Hi :)

I go to Central College (I'm doing an evening aromatherapy class there just now), and I did the saturday gel course last year.

It's really good for, like you say, getting the basics and seeing if you'd like to take it further. They use NSI Balance gels on the course, which is a really good brand.

Good Luck with the course, I'm sure you will enjoy it :)

hiya, cant really say anything apart from good luck!

im going to college of commerce next year too, for the full time HNC Fashion and Phototgraphic makeup!

Just wanted to wish you good luck honey. As a college tutor this is always a good place to start when training in this industry to see if you like it and are up to the hard work it intails.

By no means is this an and to your education but only the start. As stated buy others a good place to look for further education is the Scottish Beauty Show which is on the 10th May.

If you attend the show pop along to the YN stand an say Hi I always like to meet new people.

Once again good luck honey and practice makes perfect.

Thank you for all the good wishes everyone.

Tracey, at the moment I'm definitely planning on going to the beauty show so I will pop along and introduce myself.

Don't know who I could get to come with me though. I think my friends might get a bit bored as they might not be into it as much as me. Is it mostly directed at people in the business? Is it child friendy? My sister might come with me if it is. She'd like to learn the very basics of cutting hair, so at least she'd get something out of it. She has a 5 year old and a 9 month old. Her husband works long ours in his own business and she finds it difficult getting childcare for both.

I've got 4 part time evening courses at Central College all mapped out for the next academic year but I wonder if I'm geting ahead of myself. First of all I don't know how much they cost(awaiting email reply) and I haven't even started this Saturday class yet. Or they might be full already. Hopefully not.

why dont you ask the people in your class?

my class for nails is going to the scottish beauty show i think, might be an idea?

:)
