Hi

I'm in the process of looking at cosmecuticals for a salon that i'm setting up.The building used to be a salon but it's been closed a while. They used to use DR Murad exclusively and i'm first of all looking to see whether I use them or a another cosmecituical as their start up costs are nearly double that of Dermalogica (i'm not planning on using dermalogica but I know a lot of people know how much they charge). Anyones thoughts on this would be welcome!

Secondly I'm also trying to work out whether it would be worth using a second brand and offering a 'more relaxing' facial option. Does anyone do this?

Thanks in advance!

I used to have two facial lines when I first started. However I got rid of one as I found I prefered one of the two and have minimum order quantities when placing an order. Also you have to make a minimum per year which is very difficult to do with two lines.

My advice run two non conflicting lines one cosmecutical ( such as puramed professional) and one organic ( I really like the look of the pinks boutique range ) I only specialise in the aesthetics side of things and have no spa training but I used to own a large succesful salon and we ran puramed alongside elemis we had a spa room fitted out by elemis did there body and facial treatments alongside our puramed peels
Generally clients will come to you for three reasons
VANITY ie lashes ,nails ,tanning ,body contouring Botox etc
RELAXATION massage ,spa facial ,flotation tank etc
PROBLEMATIC acne ,pigmentation ,skin tags thread viens etc
If you want to attract more people to your business or have a demand within your clientel for new services then introducing new products or treatments can expand your income stream
In my opinion with vanity you need the power of a brand cnd ,fake bake and the hd brows lot I think do this very well for there clinics
With relaxation you need a mix of facilities and branding and the right therapist
And with problematic you need clinically reviewed proven skincare and equiptment that allows you to become a magic maker problem fixer
Ie sauna flotation tank

In my salon we had dermalogica and then added BeautyLab. In the end clients preferred the pricing of BeautyLab and the fact it was made in the UK, relaxing yet results driven. We stopped stocking dermalogica after 20 years in September last year. Have not looked back in regards of sales and popularity since changing, however dermalogica is a cracking brand but found that we couldn't have our niche with it anymore. Xx

I originally stocked Environ and Thalgo, but my account with Thalgo got closed in December as I didn't spend enough. I considered running with just Environ as I sell a lot and do a lot of their facials, but it is very results driven and not a 'pampering' facial. I got a lot of samples and did a lot of research and now have Swissdermyl alongside my Environ. This brand is gorgeous and has been more popular than Thalgo. Many of my clients want the relaxation and indulgence of premium products, lovely massage and wonderful aromas. I have Environ clients who will buy the products and have the facials, then every so often have a Swissdermyl facial and I have clients who would never pay for the Environ facials, but will come regularly for Swissdermyl! They are very popular and I have no trouble differentiating them. Also, no annual minimum order for Swissdermyl! Environ start up is not cheap, but the support is fab. They do 'Event days' which are fantastic. Did one yesterday and sold over 500 of product.
