Hi ladies

I'm half way through my level 2 at college and I'm really enjoying everything except cutting! I just can't get to grips with it at all.I practice all the time on manequin heads and feel fine and confident when im doing it but when it comes to doing clients Im just useless and end up in a fluster, then my lecturer usually steps in and helps, it's getting now i actually get really worked up and nervous before I go into college on the days we have clients and I'm slowly making it worse by trying to avoid cutting but obviously this won't help I really want to master it but just now I feel I should be confident at cutting by now , any advice or tips?

I used to be the same ... Remember the clients that have booked in to be a model ... Take deep breaths and get your thoughts together. That's what I used to do!
My tutor told me not to worry you will get better in time and this is a training salon it's what your hear for! Any mistakes your teacher will be ready to step in before you make them.
I always tell myself "if you cannot see your guide or I'm not 100% certain of the next cut , don't cut it! It's wrong"
I talk to myself in my head slot[emoji1]
I've also recently subscribed to my hairdressers.com it's about £10 a month it's really good for understanding different cuts.
Good luck with your training I know how you feel [emoji4]

I was and still am the same! Don't give up I trained in salon were you ether specialised in cutting or colouring. I struggled from the beginning with cuts and got stuck on my one length f/grad for months and ended up going straight into colour and never cutting. Now I regret it everyone gets stuck on something and hey the more practice you get the better! Models know your learning and a majority of the time are more understanding than clients paying full price. Don't give in with it I hate the fact now I only colour and anything past a trim I freak out at. would love to be good at both! Good luck

Just like Hayleyhair,I used to panick. Then I learned to do the consultation first then we had to tell the tutor what we were going to do so I would take that five minutes to plan the cut on paper first, then in time my head, take it slow, clean parts, methodical,if you lose your way allways go back one step, then take smaller sections I promise it gets easier, and faster in time.watch as many videos periscopes that you can free salon education are good Sam Villa as well April 101 it all helps with understanding angles, elevation .

Thanks everyone for your reply, it's good to hear I'm not alone,I think it is just gaining confidence in myself and telling myself I can do it,hopefully I'll go in one day and it'll just click like everything else, think alot of the problems is loosing your guide line and not quite knowing if your cutting the right bit at the right angle

You've hit the nail on the head, confidence!
Just take your time, step by step, on each section think about what you're going to do. Speed will come later. It's good to be anxious at times as it keeps you on your toes, it's when people get far to complacent that mistakes happen

You CAN do this :)

I used to get really really really anxious in college at first, I'd completely avoid doing clients as much as I could, i'd bring my own model in every Friday on practical day so I didn't have to do college clients.

We've all been there, there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Tell me, whats have you actually got to be scared of? Whats the worst that can happen when a tutor is there?
