Hi everyone, I'm a very new nail tech and have done gel nails on a friend (using the Edge gels) - they are lifting immediately in certain places. I'm thinking I may change Gels to NSI. Any other thoughts/advice greatly appreciated. Many Thanks

Hi there :green:
How quickly..... as soon as you had finished or the next day?

Hi Ya
I used to use The Edge products and had so many problems with it, i then re-trained with nsi and it is definitly a much better product and i hardly ever have any problems with lifting.

Hi - almost as soon as I had finished. :-(

NSI are lovely products and so are Bio Sculpture and although Bio Sculpture are expensive I have never looked back. So many clients ask for it by name.
If I get anyone who's nails look like they need a bit of TLC I always use Bio Sculpture.

I've never used the edge gel, had a try of their l&p and was very glad I hadn't paid for it. But all that aside, lifting comes down to one of two things, your prep not being thourgh enough or your product coming into contact with the clients skin.
There are some great tutorials on here, I sugest you have a read through and see if there is anything on those that you're not doing/ not been shown how to do and then have a good look at how you apply your product, it's such a fine line between geting a flush finish and your product touching skin that maybe it's just that you need to slow down with your application. Again there are tutorials on here for that too. Also if you go to Angel fingers page you will find a link to her own blog and she has lots of gel work on there.
I hope this all helps hun:hug:

I agree with Susie. As it happened so quickly, i would also say its either prep or the product maybe not sticking to the nail plate properly. I'm not a gel tech but i know when i first started using acrylic, i was so scared of squashing big lumps of product into the cuticle area, that i wasnt making a good bond between nail and product. As soon as i filed over it.... it started to lift!!

Tutorials on here are really helpful. Good luck, dont let it get you down, everyonr has teething problems.... i'm still having plenty!!!

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll certainly check out the tutorials - I've checked out the price difference between Edge and NSI and it's quite a lot per pot so it's clearly a more superior product. I trained with NSI too. I'm fairly sure the products aren't touching the skin - maybe I'm not getting close enough - maybe I'm a bit scared being new. Think I'm gonna get an NSI starter kit and double check my application procedure too and hopefully I'll get better results. Thanks guys :)

I was using the edge gels after a long gap of not using any gels at all and got loads of lifting, but once I had practised and made sure my prep was thorough I had no problems with lifting. Biggest problem I had with the edge gel was that it got full of bubbles that just wouldn't go away even after weeks of not using it!

mmm, I noticed tiny bubbles too. I'm gonna upgrade my gel and see how I get on. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Denise,

I trained with the Edge and found that their gels lifted within 1 day and were not durable despite creating nice sets of extensions. I have now transferred to Bio Sculpture and is a great product to work with. :)
I have some old Edge products left that I purchased and never used.

Hi all i'm a newbie here so hope i'm posting in the right thread.I trained back in May using The Edge products - i have to date done 6 sets of tip and dip and 6 sets of gels - out of 12 sets only 2 have lasted long enought to be refilled and even at this the refills looked awful in that the gap was filled but the gap was clearly visible(this was using tip and dip) - i have been in touch with 3 others girls who did the course with me and they also have experienced lots of problems with lifting etc - i am a fully qualified Beauty Therapist and have followed the guidelines to the letter by preparing the nail properly and staying away from the cuticle and sides so the gel or acrylic dont stick but i am totally peed off right now - i had hoped to advertise shortly in my local village but my confidence is rock bottom now and i dont want to advertise if either my technique or the products i've used are bad.

I know lots of you will say that i should be more patient and get more sets under my belt but i had gel nails myself for 3 yrs and i never once lost, broke, snapped or had a nail lift on me.Thank god to date i have only done sets on friends and family free of charge to practice but i am considering changing to a different brand.

I am based in ireland and wondered how much a conversion course would be to nsi or biosculpture?I enquired months back about bi sculpture and i thik it was 750 euro for 2 day course but i think this was for beginners i wondered if anyone knew of a course that was conversion only which might be cheaper?

I am beginning to think the course i did wasnt great in that we went over 2 or 3 systems from acrylic, tip and dip,gel and fibreglas over a two day period - i dont feel we got enough concentrated time on one particular system.I also feel that some of the other girls who did the course with me in dublin are not happy either. At the time i asked why their course was cheaper than the other courses being offered and they said becuase we did it over 2 days there was a lower insurance rate for classroom facilites etc

ANy help or advice wold be appreciated :o

I also trained in The Edge system for acrylic and could have pulled my hair out due to lifting problems. I am now saving up for the CND conversion course but managed to get a hold of some CND acrylic to practice with and no problems so far. I have just completed the akzentz gel course and the prices are not to bad for that go on nailsplusbeaty website and have a look.
