Hi,

I am at college doing a part time nail course, I am due to start acylic soon and was wondering what you do when you are mobile. I have used acrylic a few times at home whilst practising and it stank the house out!
Is there a mobile extractor you can buy specifically for nail techs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :) x

Hiys, have a look at this, it is quite a lot of money, but it's not just for fumes and dust, it has other built in purposes as well, it's on my wishlist lol hth x ruth

This is only happening because you are new at it and don't yet know how to minimize the amount of odour you are making. You are wiping your brush too much and you are wiping it on paper instead of on a pad dampend with sanitiser .. you prpbably do not have a metal bin etc. It is very possible to keep odour to a minimum and not stink the house, or even the room you are working in, out.

Most extractor systems are designed to remove dust (far more important healthwise) more than vapours which you can do allot to cut down on just by working with good habits.

Does this work with any brand off sanitiser?

Im quite sensitive, the fumes give me a headache.

The point is that the damp (DAMP not wringing wet) pad draws any excess monomer into the pad and stops it from spreading out on a dry piece of paper. There is not enough liquid in the pad to be drawn up into the brush so don't worry about that. So, yes, I don't see why it shouldn't work with any sanitiser ... try it and see.

The other important thing is that using a pad focuses you to another area so that you dont wipe your brush and then lean onto the paper with your wrist and then risk overexposure. I've seen many a technician with a rash on her wrist from continually leaning on paper damp with monomer.

I've used this trick for years and years to no ill affect to the nails.

I have tried using a damp pad with sanitiser on the last few times i've done nails at home thanks to reading it on one of geeg's other posts. I use a cheap sanitiser spray that i got a long time ago that i dont use on nails anymore. It works really well!! I used to wipe my brush on a kitchen towel (and wipe it far too often too!). My other half was always complaining about the smell but has been most impressed that the house isnt smelly anymore!! :)

Thanks to gigi i dont get any complaints when i'm practicing nails now!

Thanks for this, i will try this next time, i too get complaints from my hubby about the smell, and since i am newly trained, i am looking for all the tips and tricks i can get. thanks again xxx
