I've never had any contact with trade tests in this industry but I shall soon be in need of hiring a well established tech and I was wondering exactly how they would be done?

I would like somebody that can handle l&p, gel and sculpts very well but do I generally just ask them to choose one to do on a test?

Sorry if I seem a bit bewildered about this particular point.

Also, when hiring have any of you geeks ever had a minimum standard of training ?(I mean beyond the fact that they have a cert they can get insurance with) that you've required from your techs?

i would ask them to do two gel two l and p two tips and two scuplts or whatever you expect of them
also take into account of nerves
i would supply them with products if they wished but also take into account they might not be used to it,
so allow them to use their own stock if need be, but ask them to only use a bit and maybe do a scuplt in l and p and a gel over a tip or vice versa
good luck xx

Why not ask them to do 1 nail in each system....although, you probably won't find a full service tech competent in all systems, including sculpting.....just my experience, so why not look for a tech competent in one system, looking to branch out into another system.

Are you able to provide additional in house training?

It would be better if you could get an experienced nail technician to carry out the trade test for you. Ask candidates to bring along a portfolio of their work and their training and insurance certificates, as well as references. They might also prefer to use their own products.

When doing a trade test, it can be a full set of whatever system you prefer or perhaps a couple of nails with different systems on one or two. Ask your candidates if they can bring their own model - they might prefer that and it is something less for you to think about.

If you are not experienced in the nail industry, it may be difficult for you to know what to look for in quality nails.
