tried mixing polish with gel. my results

hi geeks. the other day there was a thread discussing mixing polish with gel.
i decided to try this today to see if it worked with the gels i use as there are no colour gels available in this range.
have to say the results were a bit disappointing. first client i did pink tips.
put a few drops of polish in with a base gel. have to say they turned out really well, it was actually the second set i tried that i didnt like.
i used a purple polish and because the client want the whole nail coloured i mixed it with my builder gel. when i applied it over the base gel the colour was no where near the colour of the polish. it was very transparent

i applied 2 layers as i usually do but the colour still wasnt right. after i had finished the nails completely i still wasnt happy so ended up polishing the nails which defeats the whole purpose.
i was afraid to use too much polish in case it didnt cure properly but do u think i did anything wrong . i didnt actually think this would work but curiosity got the better of me and i just decided to try it. i know the rules about mixing products but would just like to know if any other geek has tried this succesfully without effecting the quality of there nails and if so how you get the right colour

I personally wouldn't attempt doing this myself, especially not on a client when you don't know if this would work.

I have tried mixing pigment with gel and it did cause product break down in thew end, so i didn't do it for long. Plus i only tried it on myself.

I really wouldn't try doing this with polish as when you apply gel over polish, you get the polish cracking and rippling under neath, so to mix it may cause it not to cure properly etc.

If you want to do this, i would only do it on yourself, then you know what to expect. That's IMO anyway, i admire you wanting to try new things, but i would always try these things on yourself first.

dont worry both clients were friends who both get discount price (only 2 that do) so would usually try out new things on them , i would never experiment on full paying clients. they both know that if it dosnt work then their nails will be repared.
i found another thread from way back on this subject and there were quiet a lot of geeks that were using this technique which did suprise me as i never would have considerd doing this . as people successfully mix glitters etc i thought id give it a go . like i said using the mix for tips worked well as the product can be built up but as an all over colour i was not impressed but god loves a trier and now iv got it out of my system.
going to the professional beauty show in dublin at the weekend so will see if i can find some coloured gels that will be compatible with my gels. although saying that i always come home from the shows after spending a fortune, i just cant resist lol
