Hi all, could someone tell me if high blood pressure is a contra with universal mud wrap? yesterday I refused to do a client because she told me that her last body wrap had raised her blood pressure and that she had problems with high blood pressure but that she was ok now, I asked her if she could rebook and come back with letter from doctor. She had trouble going upstairs to therapy room with breathlessness and I guess I panicked. The thing is she had paid for 3 and was going for her 3rd wrap.

My boss told me it wouldnt affect someone with high blood pressure, so not sure now.
Have looked for old notes from college and they are missing out of my portfolio, god knows where they are, the only thing I have is an old test paper listing 3 contras, pregnancy, plebins and emphesyma.

I feel guilty because a, had to turn client away and she had driven from afar, b because my boss has to pay her back.

I would like to be right in this matter to ease my concience and also so I don't have attend another universal contour wrap course as boss suggested. ( not a bad thing to do as apparently things have changed with this treatment ie 11/2 hour that wraps are left on client compared to 1 hour of which I was taught)

please help

hi there, i used do do universal contour wraps and i specifically remember that high and low blood pressure was a contra indication. i refused a person once because of this and she was really annoyed as she said she was on med s for it so i said look if you can provide a letter from your doctor and sign a disclaimer ,that i would only be 2 happy to do one . you were dead right on what you did. if you cant remember the contra's get your boss to ring the company you deal with to send you out a list of contra's .

I think you did the right thing. I wouldnt have done it either. Clients need to remember that it is in the interests and that its not just because we want to turn them away.
If in doubt i will always get a G.P note. Its just not worth the risk of something going wrong.
If your boss seems to think this is ok then i would ask to see some proof from the insurance company xxx

Yes you are right it is a contra-indication. I spoke to Tiffany at Universal Contour about it myself a few months ago as we had a client with high blood pressure. The client would definately need a G.P note as you advised and also they advised me that as a general rule that if the client would get breathless after a short walk for any reason then you should not go ahead with the treatment.

I would give Totally Uk a call if you want more reassurance as they would be happy to help. I also haven't heard that you should be leaving the wrap on for 90min!! We have always done it the same with 60min in bandages.

Hope this helps
