I'm a GDC registered specialist dental nurse.
I'm not allowed to put my hands in a patient's mouth and I'm certainly not allowed to carry out this procedure.
OK, being able to say you've carried out 1000's of treatments is great, but what happens when something goes wrong? Does the 'client' come back to you to so you can remedy the problem or do they end up being a 'patient' at their dental practice or emergency room?
I have nursed for many whitening treatments and can tell you all about the various products, procedures, risks etc, but if I were to attempt to whiten someone's teeth I could be struck off the register.
It is really frustrating that non dental professionals can whiten teeth after doing a short training course. I have had to some pretty intensive training to do what I do, but no dental company would consider training me to whiten teeth and I'm not surprised, there is too much at stake.
I do feel a little bit like this is a waste of a post, because those are going to whiten teeth will still whiten teeth, because people like us are just ranting and being dramatic.
Hay ho.
