I would do it the way you have been taught to with the products you are using mate...
I use both flags and belly !
(bare in mind I have just changed products too , so my application is still a bit of this and that while I get used to the switch)
But with my older product NSI, I was taught to use the flags to keep the product moving and workable, then the belly to get my final shape and press out to the sides...then the flags to smooth...
(I have no need to do this with CND thank god, its so much easier lol)
Each system has its own way of working and its usually for a reason..
Some products will require you to use the belly as they will need more liquid to keep it wet enough to work with,
And some will require you to only use the flags to avoid expelling excess monomer onto the product...
