Hi, has anybody done the VTCT Level 2 Beauty Specialist Diploma and have you been able to gain work easily. I've taken this route instead of the NVQ Level 2 as I have been advised it's the same level as the NVQ level 2 and is a more suitable course for mature students and it's also internationally recognised qualification if i want to go abroad (which I do in the next few years).
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi hun I did NVQ level one and two. It's awarded by VTCT
It is hard to get a job with just this, as a lot of salons (well most infact) require you to have a minimum of Level 3 & 2 yrs experience in a salon environment.
I did get a job in a spa through my work experience. They prefer you to have a qualification in massage, as this is really popular in industry.
I am working towards this now.

My friend actually did level 2 and went on to do a seperate course in massage and Indian head and is now working in Virgin for their beauty department.

You can of course also go mobile, so keep that in mind.

But you really need level 2 first so that you are able to branch out into other treatments.

Hope this helps :) ....welcome to the site by the way xxx

As far as I'm aware NVQ2 and VTCT2 are exactly the same. I did NVQ 2 & 3 and the awarding body is VTCT and it is their certificate that you get. Most salons and spas will require level 3 (NVQ/VTCT). I did these as a mature student and it really makes no difference, just get as many qualifications as possible under your belt for the best job opportunities.

I agree with this 100%...the more you can offer the more enhanced skillfully as a therapist you can be...as for living abroad i am aware that VTCT is an internationally recognized qualification together with cidesco and ,itec, however i would check within the department or area you are residing,as you would need to transfer the qualifications over...i know this from personal experience and had to transfer to itec, for beauty...hth:)

Thanks for your advice xx
