Hi I had a client in yesterday who use to get their lip & chin waxed. However the wax used (not sure what type) was causing her top lip to go brown like a "tea stain" as she described .
Trying to research what may have caused this apart from any health/medication etc as nothing changed during the time of the waxing treatments.
Has anyone else come across this?
Or any ideas what may have caused this would be great!
Thankies xx

She may have exposed her newly waxed skin to sunlight and it may not be the wax but the perfume or alcohol in the pre wax/afterwax that has caused hyperpigmentation

I agree with Gillian. Wax doesn't turn skin brown but what she did after being waxed would or medication. xx

You need to stress to your client the importance of using an SPF following her waxing service to ensure her skin is protected from the sun which can cause hyperpigmentation.

Thanks guys! Never thought about the pre/after wax or sunlight, shows 1 brain isnt enough at times lol
Joe90 - Yeah I always do tell them about using SPF and hyper-pigmentation, only problem is with this client it was a different therapist she was seeing so not sure if they may have explained it all, i know i've been to places to get waxing etc before I was qualified and was never told about using an SPF
I'll check that link right away! cheers

I'm experiencing this myself now. I did a wax on a lady yesterday evening and I patch tested to check the temperature on my wrist.. The strip wax was a little overly warm but not by much. Not hot. The flexi wax was fine.

I didn't use any pre or post wax products on myself. This morning I've woken up with brown skin where I did the patch tests. It's not like anything I've ever seen before. As if I've learnt on some tan solution or something (I haven't, and it's exactly the same shape as where I did my patch tests), looks like it has a mottled texture like a new scar but it's smooth.

I've not been out in the sun as I've been sleeping, and I didn't have any sunburn. I'm not pregnant either.

Has anyone heard of this pigmentation for other reasons? It looks as though it's a bruise where I've been grabbed, quite embarrassed with it visible on my arm.
