Hi geeks, iv popped over from nail geek and wonderd if anyone can help me? i have a home salon and at the moment i only do nails, shellac being really popular. I really want to start offering something else and im thinking of iether a spray tanning course or a waxing course. Aventually i want to offer both but for now i need to decide on one of the two.Which do you think would bring me more business? hope someone can help:confused:

Both are popular but maybe you can ask your existing clients what they would have? Maybe do a questionnaire to see what treatment they would most likely to have, this could give you an insight in what to train in next x

I offer waxing, nails and foot treatments - although I am a trained spray tanner and worked for a spray tanning company for a while.

Maybe you should weigh up what will be the bigger outlay and what will bring the biggest return. And have a look at what the market is like in your area.

I chose to specialise in waxing - especially brazilians as it's a huge market where I live and there was a gap for me to introduce good quality non-strip intimate waxing. I've been trading 7 weeks and growing week on week, with good rebooking and the word is spreading.

I think waxing and spray tanning work well with nails so a good add-on to what you currently offer.

Good luck with your choice : )

Hi Peachy, how did you find Brazilian is huge market in your area? I came across this in another thread. Thanks

I would learn waxing before tanning.

In my experience, I think people book waxing more than they book tanning and I know a lot of self employed therapists who consider waxing to be their main earner.

Ultimately do both because they are both great treatments. I just reckon that waxing would bring in more bookings overall.

I offer both and do equal amount of both treatments but personally i would do waxing first, good luck with whichever you decide :)

Hi, I moved here a couple of years ago and had jobs in two salons where I spent most of my days Brazilian waxing so I knew then it was a good market to get in to. I also learnt how things worked here in norway compared to the Uk re customer service and expectations. From there I just decided I wanted to specialise and no one really uses non strip wax here so I just retrained with kim lawless and so far it's been a success.

Ahh thanks everyone, my existing clients are telling me there interested more in tans and as iv got to know most of them quite well, they would prefer to go to someone they didnt know that well for waxing
Im still unsure though as i want to bring in new clients that in turn may then want there nails done ect. I just need a massive money pot and do them both haha. thanks girls x

I'd suggest asking your current clients what they'd value in terms of a new service and also, if you're looking to expand your business, then perhaps doing a bit of research into what sort of demand is out there for each service and then decide from there...taking into account the costs etc.w

I dont know what area your in but the carlton institute have just text me to let me know they have buy one get one free in their courses. I havnt done their waxing course but i did the spray tanning course and it was great. Ive had a lot of customers in for tans. Mote popular than nails x

I do tanning and find it very seasonal! Waxing is an all rounder! Most people are hairy and need waxing.

I am booked in for my waxing course in November as I already do tanning and every nail service going so I want to branch out into the beauty side so also doing hd brows and retraining in eyelash extensions and doing my level 2 hair so very busy :D x

Definitely waxing X

Hi

I think both are popular and in my experience tanning used to be very seasonal but this doesnt seem to be true anymore I am Sales manager for sunless solutions and we are busy all year round and our customers are all saying the same that they find people are wanting tans all year round as they feel it makes them feel better about themselves!!

Good luck in making your decision!!!!

I would offer spray tanning, you could offer your clients a free spray tan to show off your work so their friends will come to you, can't show off waxing can you! :) good luck x
