I have a regular client who come roughly every 5 weeks for waxing of the eye brows, sides of face and fore arms and she has been having this done with me for about 6 months. I use Peron Rigot Rose hard wax on the face with a little jasmine oil underneath and use Clean & Easy for the arms.

Now I haven't changed any of my products or equipment and she has never reacted before, but she was in for her waxing last Friday and everything seemed well, stayed and chatted for a bit after the service. She called today quite alarmed because today the area where I waxed had come up very red and itchy and said that her eye area was swollen.:Scared:

I advised her to apply a cold compress and that as she was in college (studying hairdressing) I suggested that she go into the beauty department to see if they had anything he could apply.

What could possibly have caused this and should I have given different advice? I did ask if she had applied anything different to her skin and she said no.

If she is studying hairdressing it would have been easy for her to touch her face while having a chemical on her hands or gloves during her training and this could have caused the reaction,
we touch our faces all the time without realising it, she could have done this before or after her treatment with you,
just an idea hth

I agree with Lou......there's no way this would have happened 3 days later. She rubbed something on it. xxx

I agree, any reaction would have occurred with 24 hours if it was the service, but she even said that she hadn't been able to do her practical work this morning because her eyes were so bad.

But as long as I can confidently say to her that it isn't the wax then I guess that is good.

This maybe what has thrice happened to my daughter as she is always touching her head then her face when she has highlights done.
The first time she had a rash all around her mouth which went red, then brown and flaky and she was off college for a few days as we thought she might have that hand and mouth virus thing.
Then she got it again and we thought no must be something else then third time we tied it into having her highlights she now knows not to rub the bleach all over her face :)

I agree with you. It is an allergic reaction, but not to the wax that you used. It is something she has done a day after the treatment. You have to calm her down, explain that she reacted to something else (more likely to hair dye or bleach), and she should take some antihystamin, or ask her GP for advice. I am suar she will be fine, but it is important to fing out exactly what caused it.
And please, don't worry, it was not your fault:Grope:

Just another question - how would you explain why it only affected the areas where she was waxed?

Because the follicles can be still open, for one to two days after the treatment. The first body part to react to allergic reaction is usually the face, and because the skin was still sensitive on the waxed area it reacted the most. By the way, the eyes are very reactive too, so that is why they are puffy(and you didn't wax the eyes, did you?:Grope: just joking:)).
