Okay fellow geeks, I had a client just call and asked about her nails. Her nails aren't lifting, but in the back of the nail, where they had grown out, she says they are purple/red in color and feel as if they are bruised. This isn't happening on every finger so I can't say its allergic reaction, which is first what I thought it may have been before asking more questions.

I have gel on her and they are at the top of her finger. Very short. She types all day at work and she did say, she is trying to train herself to type with the pad of her finger instead of the tip. All I can think that this would be is some sort of bruising. I do her weekly as she does seem to be ultra picky with her nails. But any info on this would be helpful. Thanks so much for your time and being smart as you geeklings tend to be!!!!

Oh...just so you know too....no I haven't used a drill on her at all. Very gently hand file. That's why this is sooooo confusing to me.

Probably no use at all but has she been eating or peeling beetroot ?
at least my lame idea has bumped it back up for you hun

i type all day too and dont ever suffer this.. and also use my tips..
what do you mean you have gel on her and they are on the top of her finger?
which fingers are bruised and oin which hands.. and is there any trauma?

I apologize....I should have been clearer in my description. I have applied gel enhancements and her length is very short. The length barely goes past the tip of her finger.

The reason I had thought bruising, because she had mentioned to me she always uses her pinkie and ring fingers to hit the enter key on the key board. Those are the working fingers. These are the four fingers that are having the problems. Weird. I just don't get it.

Could she have given her hand a nasty knock?
If its the four fingers pf her working hand then it seems more likely that she has flicked the edge of her fingers against something hard.. I have done this.. and my enhancements have been fine, but the regrowth sore.. but never bruised though..
wierd yes, but keep us updated if you ever work out whats going on!
good luck

Have you seen her nails yet? Can you get a picture to share this experience with us all?

some clients nailbeds are thinner than others, particularly around the moon/lunula, this is where experience comes in to play.

The product I now use doesn't require buffing of the natural nail at all (not even removing shine) so those sensitive/thin nailplates are a thing of the past.

She comes in Saturday and I sure will get a picture to share all of this with you.

Nailzoo, you are going to have to tell me about that product you are referring to. This client does have sensitive, thin nails. I didn't even realize such a product actually existed!

Thanks for all your responses!

it makes me think of nail damage you get when your fingers slip of the car door latch. ive lost 4 nails at once thanks to my clumsiness and car doors:green:

Hard to tell without seeing them. Sounds like thinned nail plate if it is the actual nail she is referring to. If it's this skin at the top of the finger it could even be chilblaines? I'd ask her to pop in and see you and take a closer look. Take care
