Hi there, I am new to this site and have read through so many of the previous questions and traning ad's.

I am a 26year old mum of 2 young children and have returned to work full time only to leave as childcare cost were more than my earnings. I have thought about retraining into a more creative self employed industry for a long time and I think now is the time to make the plunge.

I have been interested in becoming a Nail Technician and have read up so much on what and how to train that i just have no idea which is the best way. In an idela world i would love to go to college but my youngest is only 4 months!!!!!

I would like to set up my own business being mobile and from home.....what qualifications do i need and where is best to study for them?

Hope you all can give me some good ideas.

Thanks from a very confused.....:irked:

There are very many options available to you. I started out at my local college with a VTCT qualification, they may be able to help you with childcare costs and course fees, depending on income.

There are many brand led courses that you can also look into, the cost is considerably more than the FE courses but if you complete this type of course you can be trained a lot quicker and obtain insurance to work on the public.

A Geek called Sassy Hassy did a guide to choosing education, I'll see if I can find a link for you.

I am doing the VTCT at college at the moment and Cathie is right they can help with child care and funding. My Acrylics is on a Tuesday night and my Gels is on Wednesday mornings. It is only 3 hours each day. I have five children the youngest being 14 months now but when I started she was 5 months. It is possible to train at college just ask around.xx

:green: Thanks for all of your wise words of wisedom...it's always best to ask the proffs.

I have looked around at the local college...but due to my husband and I moving to Wilts in September i am unable to go with that route and the only college in Wilts to offer it needs prior training....catch 22 i guess.

The only problem is we...well he earns that annoying bracket of not enough to make life easier....and not little enough to allow us to receive help with anything.....so assistance with childcare is not an option either. I am applying for a CDL though to take an intensive NVQ2 course is this worth the loan?

Thanks

Hi there... i,m soon to be training with Bio Sculpture Nail System...which is a Gel product. I went on a course in January....it was only a 3 day course with a beauty academy and paid alot of money too! I didn't feel i learnt anything...going on a night course at college is proberbly better as you learn more and get a better qualification. However, i,ve done some research on Bio and have also had my nails done with this product in the past, and its a really good nail system...excellent quality! Theres load of practise involved...and i was once told you need to do atleast 200 full sets of nails before actually charging clients! I guess it depends on how quick you learn and the ammount of practise you have. I am looking forward to to the training with Bio...you do need a manicure certificate before you can actually train with them as you need to know about the structure of the nail. good luck!
