Not long started working from home, i have probably no more than 8 clients a week at the moment and work from a dedicated room. I have just had a call from the local council and been told i should probably be paying business rates. Does anyone know how this is worked out, not sure if it will be worth carrying on, hardly making a fortune now!

Thanks

They will work out the total floor area of your house and then your treatment room. From this they will come up with a percentage with which they will use to calculate your business rates

Every council is different some one was saying to me the other week that they pay business rates and then so much comes off her counilc tax. Also so council's work that if the room is used for something else like a computer room or tv room for kids you don't pay business rates.
