As I wonder around the boards and get to know Geeks from all aspects of the industry I have to confess I have never seen such a diverse bunch of highly dedicated and committed professionals .... most of which are of course female

I remember the knocking beauticians used to get (maybe still do) as being those little girlie's in their pink outfits faffing around painting/filing or fixing on those nails or applying a spray tan to some poor soul in the shower cubicle or spare bedroom or giving some little old lady a blue rinse over the kitchen sink..

Their business wasn't taken seriously and of course their hubbies were letting them do it just to keep them out of the way and busy

Well.....the truth of the matter is seriously somewhat different...so many entrepreneurs with the most fantastic level of desire and commitment in their chosen profession one could imagine and many now earning serious income into the household.

As if that isn't enough....for those that have this image of beauticians as being little girlie's ....think again

I definitely agree to the 'image' factor of beauty therapists. My image has always been gorgeously groomed young girls 18, 19 year olds doing all your pampering in luxury spas up and down the country. I actually find this quite intimidating sometimes and this is one of the reasons I went into nails to start with as I felt I could enjoy offering this service as I didnt feel I had the 'image' (age plus body) for being a beautician.

On this site there is such an array of expertise, ages, skills, body shapes..lol! and I don't now see the image that I used to do as being a problem for success in the industry, my clients are nice and relaxed when they come to me possibly due to my age etc. When you go to professional beauty shows, it is in your face there, but I think we all can excel no matter what image we are in. There are a lot of geeks on here that run successful businesses be it from a fabulous spa, a lovely walk in salon or a home studio... they all have their merits and can be very lucrative once the business starts to take off.

I don't do the bike scene Collin.. only tried once (on a moped) and didnt know how to stop it (it was my last day at school) and I crashed into the wall as a means of stopping... put me off for life.. :) I don't see myself as girly but I don't do the 'thrill' activities some of the geeks on here do... I wish I did, I am sure it must be exhilarating. Drag Racing is the only excitement I do on occasion. oh hummm....

Good thread tho..

PS: Loving the new avatar pic..... you handsome bugger you x

What..you don't do the thrill thing..what is drag racing then..if that ain't a thrill thing then I'm a banana

I bet there are so many eye opening activities other Geeks get up to that are a mile away from the image of the profession we are in...sky divers, rock climbers, scuba divers and so on.

so Geeks if biking (or drag racing) isn't your bag..what is th thrill that gets the adrenalin buzzing ????

Yes the beautician image is quite an intimidating one & to be honest it still stands. In fact my local college has interviews for their beautician courses and they have in big writing that you have to have the 'correct' look to get in. That speaks volumes in itself!

I however am not the typical airhead, I have a major passion and desire to be the best. It's not enough for me to get by I have to be better than everyone else!

Plus how many beauticians do you know who have a degree in Forensic Science???

As for thrills....

Funny you should say sky diving i'm booked in at Strathallan on the 31st August (2nd time as weather cancelled it in June) Cross fingers!

I also did a lot of show jumping up until last year which can be terrifying!

And then of course i'm a big hairy biker, well quite a small one actually I'm only 5'4"

Only thing i will never do is bungee jumpin as the boing at the bottom scares me too much at least with sky diving when i hit the bottom i'll stay there!

Gosh Lyndsey... you could be a stand in for Anaka Rice.... you thrill seeker you!

Funny you should mention drag strip's, i love going to them, but haven't got a decent car to race...yet  i'm left holding the camera.

but, dan has said next time we go to santa pod, I can take his car down the drag strip :green: hehehe can't wait for that! Then next year (or the year after) I plan to build a kit-car, specially for drag strips  but it wont be a road legal vehicle.

I'm doing an off-road taster soon too! I love cars lol

Thanks for all your replies...
