    My new addition!

I really hope this works.... I wanted you all to see the new addition to our family. We've called her Libby and we got her from a rescue place last Thursday. We think she's a retriever crossed with a labrador and is about a year old. Her previous owners had been keeping her outside and she'd...

    'soft' nails

I've just soaked the acrylic off my nails a couple of days ago, after wearing it constantly for about 2years, and my nails are really soft and bendy.I've cut them all short to stop them breaking, but is there anything i can do to strengthen them? I want to give them a rest from l & p for a while...

    'frosting' at cuticle edge

I never seem to have this problem on clients nails....only my own!! Does anyone know why the acrylic might look 'frosty' at the cuticle edge, and it flakes off quite easily? Am I doing bead 3 too thin or what? On my own nails, for some reason, I have loads of trouble 'pressing' the l&p down at...

    camera phones

Hi Been thinking about getting a camera phone and I just wondered if anyone's tried to take photos of their nails / nailart with one, and whether it would work or not.Do they come out quite clear, and can you put them on the computer? Haven't got a digital camera, so thought I'd join the modern...

    gross clients

With all this talk of disgusting clients who spit on you accidentally it's brought to mind something that happened to me a few months ago .......... I work in a tanning salon doing nails and I also do tooth crystals. One day this lady came in and asked me if I could put her a tooth gem on,so of...

    using scrubfresh

I keep reading all the good things about Scrubfresh, and i gather that you 'scrub' the natural nail with it using a lint free pad. Can anyone tell me why you actually scrub the nail ? When I did my course, i was told to just spray the nails with the dehydrator spray, and not to touch them with...

Hi I've got a lady coming in for l&p enhancements, and she's a terrible nail biter with absolutely rock hard cuticles !!! I've tried softening them with cuticle remover and pushing them back, but the little beggars just won't budge! They cover half of what little nail plate she has and look...

    Absolutely Steaming !!

I am absolutely steaming about an article in this weeks Best magazine, dated 1st June 2004. Its on page 18, and regards acrylic nails.... quote..."When the nail tech buffs your natural nails with a file so the false nails stay put,it weakens the nail bed. This makes your nails flake, split and...

    holidays & nails

I always advise my ladies to keep their hands out of bleach etc when they have l&p on their nails, and yet when they go on holiday, they're in and out of the pool (ie.nails are in chlorine all the time) so their nails start to peel and lift. Is there any way round this happening, other than...

    sealing airbrushed nails

Hi !! I've seen topics on here saying you can seal in airbrushed designs with a coating of UV gel...do you put the gel directly onto the design, or do you top coat it first so the design doesn't smudge? And can i use the gel i normaly use for normal overlays, or does it have to be a special one...

    fan-shaped nails

I've got a lady coming to have her nails done on Monday, and she has 'fan' shaped nails... they're narrow at the cuticle, and quite broad at the free edge. What's the best shape to go for when i sculpt them so they don't look silly? Do you think square would look the most natural? Thanks

    cleaning airbrush

I just wondered if anyone knows if you can 'soak' the airbrush in a soapy solution if its clogged with paint? I've cleaned it all as i usually do, but it still seems to be a bit clogged up. If i took the needle, crown cap etc off, is it safe to submerge it in water?
