Heres the situation!

I have a hen party booked for july with 10-12 people..... each having 3 treatments... obviously i wouldn't be able to do 30 treatments by myself in one day- which means i am having to ask for some help from other therapists.

I have decided to ask 2 other therapists that used to work in the same salon as i did. They are both less experienced in beauty therapy than me, however i will be also working for them soon when they pen there new salon.

My question is, where do i stand with paying them to help me out for this hen party? would it be an hourly rate or a percentage eg 60/40.

In the past i have helped them out with pamper parties etc and they have only paid me an hourly rate of £6 an hour rather than a percentage so i am not sure how it will work the other way round ........(in all honesty i dont even think they would do it if i paid them £6 an hour but they expect me to do it for them- they are both older and wiser than myself, but i am a lot more experienced in the job- so i am very confused what to do about this!)

What would you do?

I would do it like for like, if they've paid you 6/hr, then how can they expect you to pay them more than that?
If they won't do it for that, then why not get a couple of fellow geeks to help you out.
Lou xx

Thanks Lou, i was thinking that too its just it would be a bit wierd asking to people older than me to work for them and i would pay them £6 an hour lol just got a feeling they wont do it for that... but as you say, they expect me to do it for them!

When I do it i pay £10 an hour but they must get through the work in correct time so they are worth the £10.

The reason I do this is so it's more than the place they are working at to make sure they dont let me down.

I only pay for the time they are at the pamper party though and i pick them up and drop them off to make sure they cant make excuses for not turning up

Have they asked you how much you are going to pay them?I would pay them exactly the same as they pay you.Why should you pay them more when you are the more experienced. It's not about age.You could have a mature student who has only just qualified, you wouldn't pay her more because she is older. If they wont do it for £6 an hour then I would definately think about getting 2 diff therapists. What's good for the goose is good for the gander:wink2:

No they haven't asked me that yet as i only just text them before to ask them to keep that date free and said we will discuss it when i see them next. I honestly think they'll just laugh when i say i will pay you £6 an hour!
I do think its only fair though as you say! But how would i go about getting 2 therapists that i can trust to be reliable and work to my standards....? Its all still very strage as i have only been running my own business for 3 months but been in the industry 9 years! :S

Well you need to be strong and say it matter of factly. After all why would it be okay for them to pay you £6 an hour but you pay them more??They are going to look pretty foolish if they kick up a stink aren't they?they will certainly have to justify themselves to you should they refuse.
It is a tricky one but perhaps there are some geeks on here who would like the work.Do a quick trade test prior to you taking anyone on,maybe it's time for you to think about getting some other staff for your business anyway.Maybe advertise for staff on here in the business section
£6 isn't a lot and personally I wouldn't accept that however you have been paid by these two ladies that amount so its like for like in my book.

I think your absolutely right! and they will have trouble justifying paying me what they did if they refuse to do the same for me! these are good ideas and will definately think about what you said with advertising on here for staff.

thanks for your quick replies :D

right 30 clients wow thats a lot ! how long is each treatment ? 15 minutes 30 minutes ??? at 30 minutes thats 10 clients each ! and 5 hours work !!!! what are you costs and profit margin ???? Is this going to be a regular event ??? will it lead onto additional work ??????

Sorry i dont know if you just mistyped that or you misread and thought i am doing 30 clients- its 30 treatments not clients lol sorry if i mislead you! but yes you are right its 10 treatments each! I am thinking the treatments should definately be no more than 30 mins each as that will take 5 hours each as it is! but the only thing is it depends what treatments they choose though! it wont be a regular event- its just one day and 1 hen party- but hopefully i will get regular clients out of it! My costs are obviously going to be a lot but i dont know that until i know exactly what treatments each person is having, not done one of these before (and been the boss!) so its quite daunting! but i am sure i will learn a lot from it!

and just realised i have another e-mail at a later date from the host of the hen party and its 12-15 people not 10-12! treatments are definately going to have to be 15 mins each and no longer!

sorry had misread slightly ! ok i recently did a glitter party did not know how manypeople were going to want to have it done but it was on a sunday and I needed someone CRB checked so I paid over the odds to my helper.

However this gave me a good idea what the numbers could be, timings etc so although I initially did not make a profit, i have been booked again and this time i have charged double ...........................

So personally, pay them £10 per hour thats only £40 extra out of the initial profit and you still get to keep the clients rebooking for futher services !

Sounds good to me! i just hope i find the other therapists! (if i dont am screwed! :S)
Thanks so much for your help!
Wish me luck! :)

lol go geeking , I would do it !!!!

Where in the UK are you base? Good luck for it.

x

Good luck Milly, I am sure you will sort it hun :) I am not qualified in nothing or I would have helped you for free just to gain some experience - if you need a brew maker though hehe xxx

Personally, I would be tempted to do just 2 treatments each. That way you'll be spending slightly more time doing each treatment which will make it seem as less of a rush for the client & more relaxing for them.

Doing 3 each, you'll probably get yourself stressed about timings and it leaves it more open for things going pearshaped. Also with 3 treatments, there's more time 'wasted' on them getting ready each time.

I'm presuming you do 1 treatment on everybody then go round them all to do the next treatments.

The only thing is, she booked in wanting a certain package that i do which is £40 for 3 treatments- this means i would have to change the whole deal....
I see what you mean though it will be stressful- and seem rushed! I haven't organised a pamper party by myself before so cant compare it to anything, but when i have done pamper parties in the past for other people- they have had set timetables which includes who your doing, the time yur with them and treatments on each person.
This is definately something that i will have to do..... its just not that simple because as i said, its a package deal were they each have 3 treatments and pay £X amount each....

Ahh, didn't realise. At least you have done some before but you will need to be quite strict with your guests & remember that you're in charge so to speak. You will need to keep an eye on your timings and if need be, be quite bossy, but in a nice way, iykwim, lol.

Having a list of who is having what done helps to keep things organised.

If it does go all pear shaped & take longer than planned, then you can learn from it & perhaps simplify your next pamper parties.

Good luck with it all x
