Sounds like a fantasy. lol What's the name of the salon; I might try it out to see if I feel comfortable with a male waxer?

Kim can I ask, do you get many male therapist asking to train with you for women's intimate waxing? Xxxxxx

One that I can remember who worked with his wife. The only other two that have asked were told that I'd happily train them but they would not make a living from it and they went away, thought about it and just did men's waxing instead . I don't like people wasting their money.

Its still a female dominated industry both with trainers, lecturers and clients and I can't see that changing that much. Its probably best for the male waxers in the industry that it doesn't as it will make it very competitive.Only so many men that want waxing or want to be trained in it.

Holey Moley! I am really surprized by the amount of ladies believing that just because we have a vagina it automatically means a man will get a hard on by seeing it... Joke right?! It is a profession, there isn't anything else to it. And as far as I am concerned when it comes to doctors, I make sure I have a nurse present even with a female Doc. In my experience, male gynos were more understanding, and more gentle. Female doctors can often come accross 'bitchy' and with a God complex over their female patients :(

I personally wouldn't visit a male intimate waxer but only because I would feel embarrassed. I wouldn't for a second think oh he's only doing the job for kicks, I think its fine for a male to do the job and if any ladies out there would feel comfortable then that's great, but I personally would feel uncomfortable because of my own embarrassment, not because I thought he was being pervy or anything.
As has been said before I think female intimate waxing will stay dominated by female waxers and there's nothing wrong with it either in my opinion!

Out of interest, could you send us some links to sites advertising men waxing female Brazilians in Canada? Be good to see how behind the times we are in old Blighty.

Gillian I agree that the training industry has been dominated by females but there are several male trainers that run very successful business. Andy rouillard who runs Axiom has run a very successful training business and you just need to look at the directory of his students to see that....Find A Therapist - Men's Waxing Salons - Male Waxing Training

Well you've all given me food for thought. I love getting different opinions and upon reading the replies from the expert waxers, male and female, and everyone else, I've changed my mind and now think they're not in it for a perve (although my hubby would be!).

However, I wouldn't feel comfortable having a man do my waxing. And it would still lead to divorce :Scared:

Hi Jack.Yes I am quite aware of Andy I think he joined Salon Geek around the same time as me and was a very active member of the boards a few years back.
I think,if I'm right Andy did what you do now representing and training for Perron with Kim.

Probably the only male waxer on here at that time apart from maybe Martin who is also a successful Beauty therapist who runs a ladies salon. There are still not that many of you on here unfortunately, which I think still represents the industry as a whole.

My point is that while there are few of you there will be plenty of work but as its still very much a female demand industry when there are more men waxing and training, clients will get thinner on the ground, because most women probably still want to go to women and a lot of men want to go to women.

I would imagine that most of the Axiom salons are salons still run by women that wax men.We have just one male only grooming salon near us (Axiom trained) but hundreds of beauty salons and therapists that are women.Im sure that salon does very well as it is the only one about there just wouldn't be enough men around wanting waxing in our area for there to be numerous male salons.

Also where would all the male waxers work.Would a salon take a male therapist that may have a limited clientele.Would a college take a male lecturer.

I'm all for males in the industry I'm not being sexist I'm just being realistic about the demand.

well this whole conversation has made interesting reading!

The main thing that has been highlighted is the shocking number of salon geeks that don't wax!!!! come on ladies, get with the times and join the waxing revolution, gone are the days of painful waxes, if done properly, using a good hard wax, an intimate wax should be comfortable, effective and definitely NOT embarrassing!

As for the question raised, I wouldn't mind at all if my waxer was male as long as he was good and professional. I am sensible enough however to realise that despite the fact that we live in a modern world, a lot of people are still somewhat old fashioned. I salute the male waxing specialists out there for being brave enough to break the mould and the two male waxers that I have had the pleasure in meeting are fantastic and doing extremely well for themselves. I have found that building a good client base is as much about personality as technique, if you build a rappor and have a natural talent for making your clients feel at ease, it wont matter what sex you are. I would definitely employ a male waxer if he was a lovely guy but would be well aware that it may take him twice as long to build his client base up than his fellow female colleagues. Its a shame but it's the way things are.
As for the question of whether men would train to gets their rocks off by looking at womens bits....that's so wrong! I wax mens bits all day and not once have I found it erotic, and I know my male clients don't find having their hair ripped out in the slightest bit erotic!!! in fact, the only thing that may happen to an intimate waxer (in the same way as a plastic surgeon or gynechologist) is that we get so used to looking at private parts that they lose any sexual interest to us at all!!!! :(

So come on girls and guys, as beauty therapists we face enough prejudice and "mickey taking" about our chosen career from the rest of the world, lets at least try and support each other and recognise each others professionalism.

In fairness though to pick you up on one of your points, it's not about being old fashioned. It's about what a person feels comfortable with and personally for me I don't feel comfortable having all my bits on display whilst being waxed. That's personal choice not because I'm a prude :) Push a baby out lady bits on display no problem I get a beautiful little baby at the end, intimate waxing no thank you. Or maybe I've misunderstood part of your post? Xxxx

Well as I've said, I've changed my mind after reading the comments. Nothing like a good education, even at my age. I realise now there's nothing sexual about it.

Anyway, hubby has handed in his Christmas list and on there is an intimate waxing course, a vajazzle kit and he said he's going to make up his own vagacial as he goes along. He's currently in construction but is thinking of a career change. He's going to go mobile, get a white van and have emblazoned on it "NAKED NOONIES".:wink2:

I can tell you that during my very successful career, yes, salons have taken a male therapist, and yes, colleges have taken a male lecturer. I know, because it was me.

I have treated countless clients, and taught hundreds of therapists. I am pleased to say all have showed an open mind in keeping with the twenty first century. Many told me I would not make it, and guess what ? I did. Because what makes a good therapist or a good lecturer is between the ears, and not between the legs.

Hey happy feet, I didn't mean "old fashioned" was in any way a negative thing, I maybe should have used the term "reserved"? my apologies, it wouldn't do for us all to be the same, the world would be a very boring place! You may surprise yourself one day though, I have MANY clients that came to be for leg wax and were adamant that hell would freeze over before they exposed their bits to anyone, then before too long they were so comfortable with me and my staff that they threw caution to the wind and whipped off their undies and are now enjoying the freedom of hair free lady bits !
:)

That's great and its obviously a battle that's been fought by women for many years. My niece is a bus mechanic and had a similar attitude to you and is now extremely successful doing what she wants to do.Its not easy though and unfortunately even in a modern world the prejudices or preferences will always be there.

I have never had anything more than a 'tidy' bikini line, but next week that's due to change......I'm going all out for all off.

Interesting to see if I'll continue with it - the problem will be finding someone round here who does it properly - male or female!!!

I qualified in beauty therapy (HND beauty therapy) in 1997/8, and at that time Chichester college was the only one local that would take me. In the time I was there it was never a problem, and I always left the room whilst people got ready (although I was never afforded the same privacy!). I still do that now, whether the client is male or female as I personally feel most people are generally more comfortable getting changed without an audience - unless they happen to do so for a living!

I do quite a bit of waxing, including bikini, but I don't do intimate waxing, and personally have no interest in ever doing so! That's partly out of having no desire to see or understand the workings of a lady's gubbins, and partly out of the fact I much prefer skincare and massage, which make me much more money for much less work!

I think this would be a good thing to put a poll up on, if I knew how to after all these. Years  and anyway its not my thread, but i would be interested to know how many of us would be quite happy to have a male intimate waxer.I personally wouldn't I only like to go to a female dr/ nurse for my smears etc and before I get called a prude or old fashioned I used to pratically be a naturist no problem with being nude at all.In the right circumstances of course.

Well, dang it Kim :( I seem to be in the minority here. I never much paid attention till you brought it up. So I called around our big Cow Town and to my surprise not one spa has a male therapist! I called my supplier and the Esthetic Institute and talked with the owner, who claims that they have 1-2 guys enroll each semester but they don't know what happens after they finish school. I graduated in 2006, and I spent the next 2 months in Toronto training with a male friend. I allowed him the luxury of gaining practice waxing intimate female parts and he did the same for me. It worked a charm, and not once was it akward or unprofessional. I have met along side him another 2 male waxers that are quite brilliant at the job, actually better than most women I have worked with along the way!
What can I say? I still feel that it is a shame that there is "discrimination" in any career based on the sex of the person.
So, I guess good ole Britain isn't behind the times, it's pretty much the same everywhere, I must live in my own little world, lol
p.s. Oh my, speaking of female oriented jobs! When the economy went to ****s in Ontario and the automotive industry laid off 1000's of men from the factories...these same guys ended up enrolling into Nursing courses, and I can tell you the females DID not welcome them with open arms! Thinking, it is a female ONLY field, but it turns out that men do make amazing nurses and are quit capable physically AND emotinally at outperforming the females. Sorry, went off topic
