Hi , Ive been offered a space in a salon one day a week ..I am normally mobile but have been approached by the owner of a new salon asking if I d be interested in renting/part split, a nail bar.

We have agreeded to the financial side of things, originally I told her I wanted to take the bookings, shes now saying she wants to ,so she knows exactly when the nail bar is free ,maybe for her to do manicures on .

I was just wondering how you techs that work both mobile and based in a salon too,go about your appointments , Im just worried that I might either double book myself, or I might end up loosing out .. Ok I know thers the word communication:lol:,but does it mean if I get a new client mobile phone up I gotta check with the salon all the time if Im wanted there first ?

hi, I am mobile and work thursdays in a salon, I dont book any mobile clients on that day and the salon makes all their bookings for me and text me the times, this works well and its nice to sometimes have the salon atmosphere, I live close by to the salon and go home during any gaps, so not sat around getting bored - or being used as a free receptionist, good luck and hope all goes will

Hi

I used to do mobile, but I'm salon based full time now. I still offer home visits for disabled people etc, and I have to say that I much prefer being salon based.

however, from what you've said, I wouldnt touch that agreement with a bargepole!!! She wants to take your bookings so she can use the nail bar when its free, but she's charging you rent for it? Who would be providing the products? If you would be providing your own would you be leaving your products at the salon? How would you manage if she booked you a salon appointment but you double booked a mobile appointment? The whole arrangement sounds too messy, I would say if you are looking to working in a salon, make it a clear agreement; either you rent the room, it's for your use 100%, you take your appointments yourself etc, or they employ you, provide your products, take your bookings, pay you an hourly rate etc. A mixture of the two practices is just asking for trouble down the line to be honest. Besides (unless I've misunderstood the agreement) I find it quite cheeky that she wants to charge you rent, but use the nailstation herself, if you rented a house and the landlord wanted to stay in it when you werent at home you wouldnt stand for it, I think the same applies for when you rent commercial space.

Good luck anyway, if you're thinking of going salon based, shop around

Sorry maybe miss understanding but we are doing it on a split rather than a rent basis on the nail bar, and yes I will be using my own products, what do you think?

Hi I think it would be better for her to take a percentage of all the nail sets you actually do. If is your own products then it would have to be just a small amount. That way you are only being charged for the customers you are doing. From what you originallly posted it does not sound like a clear arrangement. Good luck with it though.:)

Yes hun thats what I plan to do , Im quite restricted to what hours I can do in the day so we arranged 30/70 split at the mo, but she wants to change it to 40/60 at a later date.

Id also be interested to know on the subject , have you gained clients mobile through working from the salon , as this is one of the reasons I wanted to book my own appointments so I could.

I have just started working two days a week in a salon above a gym. Like you i was approached by the owner of the hair salon i pay 22.50 a day make all my own appointments and use all my own products. The girls in the salon have my number and if any one wants to book they get one of my cards. I love it i was working in my home salon but its a great atmosphere and the girls are great i still work at home too but its great to be in a busy salon best move i made!
