I have been doing manicures for years now and wanted to go into doing something different. I looked into doing a gel nail course with bio sculpture or calgel, and was all set to go for it, untill i started to hear that acrylic are still very popular and stronger, esp the tips.

Now I am confussed, should i do a course doing both so that i can offer both acrylic and gel?

If so, what course!? T]

In my opinion you could start with one technique. gel is easier to work with because you can play with it longer rather then with acrylic. however, as you said - acrylic is very popular as well. if I were you I would start with gel and then a few months later I would do progression acrylic course.

I did gel first then acrylic, and wish to god i did it the other way round, the main thing you need to do is master one system, research it try it and be happy with it before you really invest in it, personally i would recommend L&P as you will find it more versatile HTH xx

Like you I have been doing man and ped for ages and wanted to offer extensions so I have been and done a nail tech course and like you am totally baffled with where to go now as to what system to use. Gel/acrylic and which brand to go with as the training is all so expensive and miles away. Let me know if you find any more info out or see any companies, as would be v interested.

Can I please ask - if one has previously done a gel course, what is the drill for training with L&P? Cn you do a conversion course or do you have to do a full training course :)

a progression course will be fine;)

ok all good info, thank you!

I have never heard of L&P nails.. do they have a website?

L&P means liquid and powder. it is what is commonly know as acrylic. Its not called acrylic as all nail enhancement systems (gel, liquid & powder) contain acrylic. xx

Oh my god! That makes so much sense!

Thank you so much for clearing that up, it was driving me mad not knowing what everyone was going on about!!

I obviously have a lot to learn, lol !

And it never stops lol !

I started with Gel but wish I had started with L&P.

Get the best training that you can !

Good luck

Yes, thats what i have been looking for now, is there any company you would recommend?

My advice is, if I could go back I would have called sweet squared for advice. Give them a call and tell them where you are at and where you want to go, they will guide you to the course you really need. I am sure you can do a course which incorporates both gel and L&P (acrylic). Do you have the essential literature? i.e Gigi Rouse, Doug Shoon etc. All nail enhancements are acrylic and the terminology is very important so those names should be at the top of every nail techs list when looking for reseach. Good luck babes xxx

no problem. i'm still training myself but i very much remember how i quickly realised there is so much more to nail enhancements than what i first thought. Good luck with whatever you choose but CND has a fantastic reputation for training and products (sweetsquared is who you would contact as said in the previous post). there is also NSI, EZflow and many others!! Have a look on google at all the big brands and give them a call. You might find you get a feel for a company when talking to them. Afterall its best to train with whoever suits you best xx
