Hi everyone,

I'm just starting out and have completed CND L & P Foundation. I am attracting new clients but some have asked if I am doing gel, commenting that they think acrylics wreck your nails!
Please can anyone tell me how I should be responding to this. I am planning on doing the brisa gel course next, what are the benefits of each system?

Thank you x

I would advise your client that if acrylic is applied and removed correctly they will not wreck your nails any more than gel would and as gel is a form of acrylic anyway, the only difference is that acrylic is tougher and more suitable for clients who need extra strength and gel is more flexible so more suited to clients who need flexibility. I agree with Nail Envi.

Neither system ruins your nails when applied/removed properly by a tech who knows what s/he's doing and the only way to put a stop to people thinking that they do is through education - by continuing your own and then passing on your knowledge to your clients.

It does take work, and sometimes it might feel like you're banging your head against a wall (people seem to like to believe magazines and the like - well, if it's been published, it must be true, right? ;)), but it's worth all the work when people realise that you're a passionate tech who knows their stuff, wants to do their utmost best and that you won't ruin their nails.

Good luck :)

It's also important to explain to your client that she needs to return to the salon for either a rebalance after 2 to 3 weeks or to have them removed professionally.

In my opinion, the reason why clients think that acrylic is bad for your nails is because they tend to be stronger than most gels and if picked or pulled at will cause considerably more damage.

They have to take responsabilty for their own enhancements and care for them.

I always give them an aftercare leaflet to take with them and explain how important it is to use Solar oil and to wear gloves etc..
