p.s i'm gonna be an aunty!!!!- sorry can't help myself!

Firstly congratulations on becoming an aunty.

REMEMBER that conception, pregnancy and birth are natural processes and not a condition.
Nearly everyone can benefit from reflexology during pregnancy.

It is very successful in the treatment of a wide variety of pregnancy discomforts and conditions.
Heartburn, sciatica/backache, piles, fluid retention/swelling,fatigue, insomnia, constipation, relaxation.
During labour itself - very good for pain relief and relaxation.

Make sure the lady has had her blood pressure checked and maybe cut down the treatment length - depends on client.

Don't treat if a dvt has been diagnosed as its wise not to stimulate the circulation.!!
Be aware of eclampsia and pre-eclampsia.
Diabetics she should be asked to check blood sugar levels before and after treatments as reflexology helps to balance the endocrine system and insulin production.

She will appreciate you for it and she will love it - just be aware of the contra-indications . Always if in any doubt consult her doctor.

Enjoy

Congratulations :)

Funny enough I'm reading a maternity reflexology book at the minute - very interesting. In Dublin I have to do a specialised Maternity Reflexology course before I can work on the general public, found one in May - but I work on my sister who is 36 wks pregnant and she finds it really beneficial for keeping her body 'balanced' and she always gets a really good nights sleep after it.

you should let me know what the book is called. i think reflexology for firtility and pregancy will be something i might specialise in the future.
they say theres a pulse on the foot that determains the sex o0f the baby is this true?
sorry for the spelling- got a client waiting for me gotta rush

It's called Maternity Reflexology Manual, Susanne Enzer, Couldn't see the isbn but I got it on amazon.co.uk

Haven't heard of the pulse thing...can anything tell the sex apart from a scan?? Even then isn't it sometimes wrong??

Just my experience here as I am not a reflexologist, but with my second baby I had 10 one hour sessions of reflexology.....I read some where that having 10 sessions in the later stages of pregnancy could reduce the time of second stage labour....so I thought I'd give it a go, cos my second stage labour with my first was horrendous (second stage in the pushing bit).

Anyway, I loved all my sessions and apart from the total relaxation, it sorted my constipation no end!

My resulting second stage labour was....wait for it lol......1.5 minutes!!!! Now whether this was a result of the reflexology or not, we'll never know.

My third was a bit more complicated as I had polyhydramnios but whether that made much difference in pushing out the water as well as the baby, it was definately a lot longer than 1.5 mins....I can't remember exactly as I didn't study my notes so much as too much else going on the the time!

Totally recommend it as an end pregnant user though.
