Hi Everyone......... Can I have some advise please..

I'll fill you in quickly, I've been doing nails for just over a year now, just part time as I have two little ones (using creative l&p). I had a bit of a slow start with between 1 & 3 sets a week, but now have 17 regular clients.

I had a new lady approx 9 weeks ago who had a set of tip & overlay, she likes her nails quite long, about 5mm free edge. She had an appointment last week for a rebalance which went well, her nails looked fine with no lifting, I took quite a bit of length off as requested. Anyway, she phoned me today to say that shes noticed a gap between her nn and the acrylic at the free edge on five of her nails ( she now has nno).

I made her an appointment and trying to sound professional told her that I could'nt be sure what had caused this till I saw her nails. Now Im panicking! Can anyone tell me what could of caused this. I'm not sure what to say to her at her appointment, I lack experience, but dont want to sound like I do if you know what I mean. If I give her a soak off and new set should I charge her, as Im not sure if this is my fault or not... Any advise from you is very needed... Many thanks

Hi there, firstly WOW for having so many regulars. Sounds like you're doing really well for part time :). The only thing I can think of regarding the lifting is if you filed the length down AFTER you'd done her overlay - thereby removing the "cap" over the free edge. I'm keen to see what more experienced techs suggest as well. HTH Linds x

I have a few clients who love to wear their nails really long and have had the same problem. The best way to prevent this is to work a bit drier. The way I've found to fix it is to use a drill under the nail to remove the lift and then glue. But if she'll let you, cut off the enhancement and sculpt the nail length back on. Sculptured nails tend to work better on ones with peeling nails as the free edge seals the nail both on top and underneath. She then needs to use cuticle oil/moisturizer every night. Hope this helps and best of luck to you!:)

The way to stop 'curling' is not to drill and use adhesive but to make sure it never happens in the first place by always 'catching' or covering the edges of the nails at the sides with your liquid & powder at each rebalance.

Be mindful when you rebalance that when you prepare the nails you always tend remove the protection from the sides and the free edge of the nails as you file, and you must replace it on application if you do not want to have this problem.

Keeping the free edge always protected is done simply by angling your abrasive under the free edge so that the overlay always is just slightly beyond the natural free edge and protecting it.

The article above explains in detail how to do it.
