Hello, a few weeks ago i had to have a tooth cleaned out & packed with antiseptic & temporarily filled while i was 9 weeks pregnant, i was really worried about the local anaesthetic but it was an emergency as I was in a lot of pain & antibiotics weren't helping, my usual dentist gave me 1 injection not sure which injection it was though as I know they use a few different ones.

Then a different tooth starting hurting, tried to manage but it was fairly constant pain, it had a big hole in so I went yesterday to my usual dentist & had a temp filling, didnt have anaesthetic though as the dentist didnt drill any decay away, he just quickly covered the hole for temporary relief until my appointment next week to stop air & food getting in, next week I was supposed to be having a deep white filling put in.

So anyway today I've ended up having to go to emergency dentist with it, to see a dentist i didnt know which i hated as i like the same one being scared of the dentist but was my only option, he tried to give me antibiotics but when he realised id already had some he said he would extract it, 2 shots of local anaesthetic & it wasn't totally numb I felt him dig in when he checked! so he put 1 more in waited 10 minutes & said thats the limit of anaesthetic (again not sure which type of anaesthetic used) & he yanked the tooth which part way through I felt :( it was over quickly though so had to bare it.

I was shaking & crying walking out of there but relieved the tooth is out.

Sat at home now with an aching mouth feeling sorry for myself.

I'm 13 weeks pregnant on Monday & worried all these injections & dental work is harming the baby! I'm dental phobic usually but forcing myself to go as I'm so sick of the pain but also my main reason is I do not want any infections that could cause damage to my baby.

Anyone else had dental work done whilst pregnant? Thanks x

Oh congratulations, I'm so pleased for you,

Yea I had dental work done whilst pregnant, I'm assuming you informed the dentist you were pregnant,

If you are worried and want to put your mind at peace call your emergency dr or dentist and ask, could even call your local midwifery team,

I'd ask my friend whoa a mid wife but she's on holiday just now xx

Congratulations on the pregnancy not the toothache lol

Thanks hun, I rang & asked the midwife when I had the first bit of work done a few weeks ago & she checked with another midwife & she said it was ok & if it needs doing then it needs doing.

I told the dental nurse today & she said oh yeah don't worry it's fine & she told the dentist & he didnt look phased & pulled his pliers out  lol its just me worrying. X

You are bound to be worried but that's 3 health professionals that have b

Opps i hit send,

That have not been worried that you are pregnant,

Hi, I'm a dental nurse, jjust to reassure you, as you have already been told, all the treatment that you have had is perfectly safe for baby and you. Many congratulations on your pregnancy x

I needed a filling in a front tooth & they made me wait until I had the baby, but I wasn't in any pain so it didn't bother me. Congrats on your pregnancy x

Hi thanks ladies.

Julie I have sent you a private message. x

How's your teeth now?

I came across so etching today and had to share

Iv had really bad toothache all weekend went to dentist on sat and she sent me home with anti biotics and an appointment to get root canal done

Anyway been taking strong painkillers not touching the pain and got clove oil works for about 2mu a then wears off

My dad brought me Colgate sensitive pro relief today

Oh my goodness who would have thought toothpaste would help

Ok still got pain but completely dulls it and it's not rank like clove oil

Sorry for going on but wanted to share esp with any pregnant ladies as it's really safe

Oh god just hearing all these words is making me ill! I have a toothache the last few days, Its a filling that I can feel there is now holes in and its getting quite painful.

Im terrified to go back to the dentist incase he says the words " root canal" & I cry in his chair ..again!

Fair play to you for going through with all of that especially with a lessened anasthetic but I bet you are so relieved, congrats on the baby also!

You'll be fine and so will baby x

Im 23 weeks pregnant and had a slight defect in one if my fillings and apparently i have an abscess at the root of one if my teeth, which causes me no pain what so ever but needs to go x

My regular dentist said under no circumstances should you have work theres nothing i can do until baby is born x

I blvd him ,
This was at 9 weeks pregnant

When i got to around 17 weeks
I couldn't sleep with the pain in my mouth, i had a tiny hole in my filling and the pain was horrendous
Ended up in emergency dentist
And basically he said
Your dentist is chatting sh*te :o

He gave me needles drilled my tooth n gave me a new filling x

I am terrified of you x lol x

I have still got toothache 16 weeks later, everyday since July my mouth has ached in some way & I swear I'm not joking either!

No one knows the cause & my dentist & all his partners at the surgery think its nerve related, I even went for a second opinion at another dentist & that dentist found nothing wrong either, I'm not sure what is wrong as my symptoms don't really fit with anything.

I've been referred to oral surgery at the hospital but what a laugh... I have been waiting 7 weeks already with no appointment & I'm 7 months pregnant now. I've rang & complained many times, they only have I think 2 surgeons doing the clinics & are running really behind so waiting lists are going down slowly.

I may aswell just wait until my son is here now before I go to the specialist because they will need to do a few xrays & obviously xrays are safe in pregnancy, I've had 1 earlier on but they need detailed xrays etc.. So I will just wait now & hopefully get to the very bottom of this after the new year.

When I say toothache, I don't mean really bad or anything, I rarely take paracetemol (I would take often if I wasn't pregnant) but I just bare with it, it aches & is unexplainable & I'm fed up of it after 4 months now, I just want to know what is wrong.

Nothing triggers it, it just comes & goes as it pleases but it's there quite often, & I haven't had a day without it since July.

X

Poor you, toothache is horrible try that toothpaste I mentioned above and see if it helps

I laughed at my dad when he said but I was amazed and actually slept last night x

Please don't worry. You had to have emergency dental work done. Better to fix than to be in pain or risking infection which would be far worse. You made your dentist aware. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I am due any moment, I also had to have emergency treatment on a tooth. I have had orthodontic work carried out throughout and I am waiting until after I give birth for an extraction that isn't urgent.

I have a 4 month old and had a lot of dental work while pregnant. My dentists will only do work in 2nd trimester unless it's absolutely necessary.
I ended up having a root canal done after having my baby and am awaiting more work. Root canal head to wait as I'd just entered 3rd trimester at that point and it's a longer procedure.
They wouldn't carry out work if there was any risk or if there was they would sit down with you and work out an alternative treatment plan until baby has arrived. Hope you feel better soon x

I am a dental nurse too and the treatment that you had was perfectly safe for both you and baby :)
