How did you get the walls to be so smooth? as my walls are brick?

mines nearly completed- 3/4 of the garage with a door opening into my hallway

all the walls have had plasterboard up (even the brick wall side, applied to battons around the room) and all joins etc filled and then will be painted - had a window put in, radiator etc, ive seen the finished result of one of my neighbours and it looks like walking into any other room in the house, just had the ceiling plastered today
