In a world of my own....
Oh dear.... got a call from a fairly regular client this morning to say that her tan is AWFUL that she is like a zebra because of all the stripes....she is one of three that I tanned yesterday (the other two are fine). I went through the usual questions i.e. did she exfoliate the night before (yes) did she put moisturiser on her body before tan (no).... is she on medication? yes she is (pain killers and something else but she would not say what) and also waiting for the results of an MRI scan.. could this be the reason for the terrible result?? I really think so but she said that she was on the same medication the last time I tanned her and it turned out fine....

Has anyone experienced this as I feel really bad as she was going away for the weekend... please help...

Thanks:hug:

hmm are you sure it's not "water marks" the marks you get sometimes when you shower the guide colour off in the morning. This gives a streaky effect, it comes away when rubbed off a little more.

I've been thinking of making a little postcard sized leaflet, to make sure that everyone understands exactly what exfoliation is and how to do it. I'm sure people just get in the shower with those scrunchies and think that is an exfoliation, when it is not! Alot of the problems associated with bad tans is what the clients do, not us, they wear make-up, perfume and deodorant, turn up in the most rediculous clothes (white tight jeans!). It just amazes me that they then blame us! So this is my next little job on my list to do the little leaflet. Let's hope this helps.

Thanks for your comments but could somebody please let me know why this could have happened?? it is not just because of poor exfoliation - it was so streaky she said she would have to wear a long coat for the weekend!!! I am baffled....

Was she the first or last client you sprayed? If she was the first was their water left in the gun from rinsing out the last time you used?Did you shake the bottle before using?

If she was the last did you run out of tanning solution and not fully spray the client?

Did she exercise or do anything that made her perspire?

Did she wash off before she should have?

I would have a look at her to see what the problem is.Sorry if some of my questions seem a bit daft or obvious but just trying to see where things could have gone wrong.

Wanted to go and look at her but she was leaving for the weekend and could not wait... she promised she would send a picture but I received nothing...

Nothing wrong with the questions....I asked her the very same ones... she told me she did exactly what I told her to do (I always send a pre spray tan prep text with full details to clients a couple of days beforehand).

I still think it is medication or MRI scan or menopause or all(she is mid fifties).... what do you think?

Thanks
Jan

Hi Jan,
If your client was on the same medication before and hadn't previously had problems this shouldn't be an issue. The MRI scan will have no affect on the tan if having it before or after (at anytime for that matter). I was a Radiographer in a past life if you wondered how I know this :)
I would be interested to hear from your client what parts of her skin are streaky... If there wasn't a sufficient time allowed to dry after the application, the friction caused in various areas while redressing may have completely wiped the insufficiently absorbed solution onto her clothes. Was she wearing loose fitting clothing?
You may want to ask her some more specific questions about her immediate actions after getting the tan. It may reveal a reason for her tan being streaky.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. I dried the client (always do with warm air from hose) and she put a light robe on..
Thing is she initially said she was on new medication then 'backtracked' and said it was the same...
I am convinced it is new meds...can't think of anything else...can you?

Do you have to wash the bottle/gun every time you use it? I have only ever done this a couple of times since i started tanning (about a year) and i have never had any problems??

Its definitely the new meds thing - If she won't tell you what it's called then you won't be able to find out how this reacts to tanning solution....there's therefore nothing you can say or do for her but it definitely sounds like her fault as she did not advise you at the time the qs were asked.

I flush my gun out after every last tan of the day,it's what I was taught and it's a habit I have got into.

Jan,
I suggest you just put it behind you and maybe offer her a free tan next time. You will then have a chance to make doubly sure you are not missing anything and have done everything right. If the problem persists and all other clients are happy you might have to politly say it may be the medication she is using and unfortunately you may lose her business. You have to just determine what is actually happening by asking some deeper questions about her immediate after care. My guess is, it may be something she has done on this one occasion where she may have rubbed some of it off getting into the car or putting on shoes or the like.

Well you haven't even seen her. It's probably not as bad as she is saying, otherwise she wouldn't have left the house!
She wont tell you what medication she is on, she didn't have time for you to go and see her and, she hasn't sent a picture which she said she would.
I really think she is trying it on!

No because I use water in my cup to spray/flush through this goes through the needle so thats how I clean it.Ive not had any problems with mine,I think maybe if your not cleaning the equipment regularly then you are definately going to have problems with dried out tanning solution clogging the gun/needle up.

She used Clarins products to exfoliate and to shower off colour guide... Has anyone heard if Clarins can affect tan outcome?
Thanks
Jan

I agree with Angelina. She says it's streaky but she won't hang on so you can go have a look at her, hasn't sent you a picture, backtracked on whether her mediacation was new or not. The only thing that makes me even vaguely believe her is that you say she is a fairly regular client, but my initial reaction is that she's trying to pull a fast one.

I had a client whom once text me said exactly the same, I am that confident in my procedure I text her back on a sunday and said I would be down what time was convienient,,,text back she was going out at 3 pm, it was 1, I said its ok il come now, went and looked, straight away I could tell what problem was, client had slept in rollers so when she showered she has not thourelghy washe colour off neck and face, (too scared to get wet) also had scratch marks on legs,, obviously been scratching in sleep.

I changed it from her telling me something to me looking at her and knowing straightway the culprit. I will always always put my hand up if its my fault, but I need to see first to check. x
