Hi I am doing my action research paper for my DDTLS course and am collating opinion. What i would like to ask you all is in your opinion which way do you prefer to train: in small private training schools or in larger FE colleges. In your answer could you also include why you prefer that particular way. If you are a small training provider what do you feel are your biggest challenges in providing this service? I thank you all in advance for your participation. Thanks x

Well I have gone back to do my level 3 at a fe college it has cost me quite a lot of money had I known then what I know now, I would never have done it. My training I have done with people like cnd was much better. The main reason for this I think and this is only my view if you go to a smaller training provider everyone is there because they love what they are doing and are eager to improve. At a fe college there are many there because they are under 19 and don't have much choice, which means they are not interested and the attitude is awful as is the bad language. Due to the way the colleges are funded they just have to put up with it. The teachers are fab and deserve medals x

Hi Helen,

I think the class establishment and size depends on the subject being delivered, I.e. if it was English then you would expect a bigger size class and at a FE education facility, which sometimes can be quite sterile and non inspirational. Where as if the subject includes theory and practical like nails/beauty I think smaller classes and SME ( Subject Matter Experts) would be my preference. They are specialised in those areas and know all the little tips and tricks, most are still working as a nail tech, beauty therapist as well. And so are still current with their techniques and products. You can give more individual time to each delegate as well with smaller classes, and I think this is crucial when learning specialised techniques.

Hope that helps, I may be picking your brains too as I'm going to be starting my DTTLS too soon ! Good luck x

I have trained at a variety of both. I dont have a strong preference as there are good and bad courses in both fe and private training.

One of the main things that draws me to private courses is that i dont usually have to wait as long for a start date and there is a wider variety of courses.

Some courses are more affordable at an fe college and it can feel like less stress than finding a private training provider who im confident to go with.

thank you ladies your feed back is most welcome and appreciated. xxx
