Hi, please put my mind at rest , I have a new Bio client who had french overlays 2 weeks ago , shes been abroad and came back and said some of the whites have chipped.!!!Why would this be????She wore latex gloves when applying sun cream ...or so she told me...Im not sure which fingers it was on and will not know to the end of the week.

Is it a possibity shes been using her nails as tools , or is it something Ive done wrong?I am Bio trained but TBH have more demand for acrylic, so Ive never come across this problem...I thought Bio didnt chip.!!

:pMany thanks.

Any suggestions pretty please??:wink2:

How was she wearing them? Oval or square? I find Bio worn on Square nails with an accentuated C-curve can chip up at the corners...especially if they weren't 100% capped. In this instance, if this was the way the client was wearing them then I would definitely cap each nail well and freeze cure before moving to the next one so there was absolutely no shrinkage.

Possibly she has been using them as tools, or having a nibble on the ends. What did you use over the top? S-gel? It is a harder gel than Sealer and I would still be tempted to stick to sealer if that is the case as it is more flexible, and absorbs knock sna dbags really well. For me, I still really only use S-gel to build a good strong apex or for a repair where I need extra strength.

Last possibility....are your bulbs due a change? Bio chips a bit ieasier when not cured as well?

To be honest you'll probably need to see them to know 100%, but my bet is that whatever it is has not been helped by her having a nibble!

I cant say I have had this problem with the Bio french at all. Talk me through how you applied you whites - did you apply it in two thin layers or one thicker layer?

I had problems with free edge separation when I applied the white in one layer but has been OK since I went be to two thinner layers.

Aw, thanks both for you replies, I applied Sealer gel as base coat, layer of s-gel ,2 layers of white , and then s-gel on top, followed by Bio top coat varnish, square shape nails .Just wondered if I could of applied the white too thick maybe?

I dont think I will really get to the bottom of the problem till I find out what fingers its on,I havent had much call for Bio as Ive said before ,so unfortunatly at the point where she phoned me , didnt think to ask this question,...but will know in future ah.

I did use two lamps , one of which Ive recently been given and been using on myself and has been fine, it has the same bulbs as a Bio lamp.I did think if it was the lamp surely the gel would have lifted too at the cuticle area if it hadnt cured properly?

Well shes just emailed me to say she wants her toe nails painting too, I asked her which fingers chipped, she said all of them , and they lifted at the sides too , only lasted for a week ,so Im assuming thats srinkage!!!

Shes asked me to do the gel thicker too next time as she thinks that will stop the chipping ...cant see that myself. Not only this shes now asked for tips too, Ive told her before I dont advise tips with Bio, but she says shes had it done before. What do you think?

I have never had chipping on bio french - it peels rather than chip - if you pick it the whole gel will come away.

I am surprised.

All I can think is the s-gel is too thick - (its like a buff off) so you really only need to apply it to extensions or a layer if the natural nail is thin and bendy (through picking etc) .

I find bio slow to shrink (which is why I have trouble using any other gel as most shrink rapidly).

I suspect that this client is a picker - I once had a client (or 2 ) who asked me to do nails thicker in places so that they couldn't pick it - they seem to know more about nails than we do - only they know the truth of whats happened. Tbh - I hate this sort of client. They have us all flummoxed thinking its something we have done or not done - when its them all along. Deep breath now.

I haven't sucessfully applied tips and bio - but sculpting with FE gel works better.

Let us know how it goes.

Hmmmm....I think when this lady comes back she won't have anything left on her nails.

Shes picked it off and blaming the chipping as her reason for doing so!

 I hate this sort of client too, do you know I was on such a high yesterday, one of my clients has been coming to me for the past 4 months, she was an ex MMA client, shes had trouble keeping her l & p extensions of mine on as her nails were badly damaged, shes percevered and yesterday when I went to see her all her nails were on bar one she caught on a door handle, what an achievement, I walked away well chuffed...n now this Bio womens brought me down again, shes saying that it lasted just like a normal french manicure, she feels I should put the gel on thicker...grrr!!! if I d put the gel on thicker in the first place shed probly complained its too thick! She says shes worn Bio before and had no probs so not sure if its me or her!

And because she says she has had them done before with no problems it leaves you feeling like its all your fault.

When you see her - ask her exactly what happened and when - ask as many open questions as you can - but let her do most of the talking (she will contradict herself at some point) - ask her to list what she has been using.

You will know exactly if she's telling the truth or not if she doesn't look you in the eye when she's answering - then you can take a breath and realise its not you.

I have sometimes just re-done a set at half price - and said to them I will be keeping an eye on them and see if we can sort out whats happening. It usually keeps them sweet and keeps you a client - usually becoming a loyal client because I tried to sort out the problem.

Clients eh?

Like I say let us know what happened.

100% agree with you on this, she might of had these problems with her nails due to using her tan cream, or its general client abuse.

Mmm, well to tell you the truth when she first phoned me , I explained my prices and the fact I would have to do soak offs in between, when I give her prices , she was like ..oh I dont know if Im going to be able to afford the maintanence, I will have to book in every 3 weeks.

When arriving at my first appointment with her she offered to do a leaflet drop in her area for me ...so she could get her nails done cheaper!!! If she refered me new clients...and now this !

Doesnt it make you wonder if shes trying to get her nails cheaper this week, saying shes not happy and had them done before and had no problems, and expecting me to charge cheaper!!

I have two ladies....dead on 3 weeker's. They book and come the same Wednesday every 3 weeks. One ALWAYS turns up with all 10 nails intact, one with none at al! I really beat myself up oover the lady that loses them all, for a while, until this other girl started coming!

The one day the 'loser' said to me, that all she'd one was run her thumb nail down the plastic packaging for 6 x water bottles from the supermarket and it had caught her nail, and admitted that as soon as one got damaged she pulled all the rest off 'cos it was too tempting not too' I went through a lot of heartache and worry for that lady.

My moral now is, if it was your fault.....they wouldn't be coming back. If they re-book, its cos they thought you did a good job, and they knew that any probs were down to themselves.

Ok thanks for your replies geeks, I think Im just going to use my Bio lamp this week on her, and freeze cure, and also make sure I definatly cap the free edge, then I know its definatly not down to me ah.
