Hi there is there a facial treatment for broken capilaries. I have a few on my cheeks and just wondered if there is anything I can use to get rid of these. Thanks

Diathermy is what you need. It is a treatment which cauterises small broken capillaries using heat, applied using an electrolysis machine, via a very tiny needle/probe.
It can only be carried out by an electrologist who is trained in Advanced Electrolysis techniques.
Usually between one and three treatments would be necessary if the capillaries are not deep or widespread. The expected reaction would be tiny scabs which disperse within a week or so.

I have had diathermy (a number of times) and the capillaries keep coming back! I have decided not to put myself through that again

Not that I am saying Tog's advice is not good, but maybe try it and see if it works for you, and not be too disappointed if it doesn't. When we have a predisposition to this kind of thing, it's fairly hard to properly clear it up.

What I have noticed though, is that the skincare I use can have a huge imact on my capillaries, i.e. how noticeable they are. Some skincare really tones redness down whereas some seems to make the capillaries look inflamed.

I also believe you can have IPL for capillaries. Not had it myself but might be worth some research.

Diathermy, IPL and sclerotherapy are various methods to treat broken capillararies. I have previously used diathermy with good results but occasionally they do re-occur. This may be due to a variety of factors - but careful aftercare is essential. However I would not recommend diathermy for large areas of broken veins but select one of the other methods.:)

All good advice. Although sclerotherapy is not recommended for facial capilliaries due to the risk of scarring. It is often thought that they return - although this is not the case. It is actually new capilliaries forming as new 'channels' from external pressure around vessels are formed, which can often happen. The choice for facial thread veins would be laser tx.

Yes - sorry sclerotherapy would not be best for facial areas, it can be extremely risky around the eye area. I was thinking in general terms.:smack:

I have had both methods and they usually return, I've also had IPL twice X 4 treatments (they came back), at last years nail show I had a new treatment where they electrocute them (no needle), the results were immediately brilliant, then after about 2 weeks, then they came back :-(

Since then I have resorted to creams .

Skin Doctors Capillary Clear is a good one, also for the last year or so, my daily moisturiser contains Arnica and have better results from using these creams than the thousands I have spent on mechanical methods.

Always wash your face with cold water.

I can see the logic with arnica because like I said, some skincare makes my capillaries appear swollen and of course, what we want is the opposite.

Also take into consideration why you get the borken capillaries, causes are external or internal.. i.e. harsh weather conditions baths which are too hot.. alcohol very hot curries are just a few, maybe trying to figure out if your lifestyle ahs something to do with them occuring would help? Sometimes people just have very sensitive skins though and are morelikely to suffer from this condition whatever they do!
