Hi, I am new to all this, i recently completed a nail technician course at my my local college. I work full time and just do nails in my spare time so i'm still learning really. My 17 year old daughter, bless her is my 'guinea pig' most of the time.
I have recently done a few 'hollywood toes' using NSI gel which i was trained in. My question is this, when i use the brush on french white it tends to run, i do all 5 nails on one foot then cure but before curing i have to keep re-doing the smile line until it isn't running any more, i thought i was using too much product but it does it even when i only use a little. Is it me and my technique or is it the product, i bought some of the new sculpting gel thinking it would be easier and stay put but it is really thick and not easy to apply, thats due to my inexperience i think.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hiya

I usually do 1 nails and freeze cure it for 10 secs whilst I am doing another nail on the other foot. When all 5 toenails have been done like this then I do the cure for 2 mins (I might be wrong, but I don't think you can overcure gel), by doing this the smile line holds it's shape, as your popping the nail into the lamp immediatley and not giving the gel a change to run.

Hope this helps

i agree with mollylolly do it on at a time and freeze them under the lamp to keep the clean sharp smile line you have created.. i find i have to do this more with fingers than with toes x

I agree about freeze curing but before you place the brush on white on the nail do you swipe the nail with cleanse?

are you removing the tacky layer before you apply your brush on white?
you can do it either way but i prefer to remove the sticky layer with cleanse before i apply my brush on white as i find it doesnt bleed/run.
i also freeze cure each nail as i go for about 10 seconds then once ive done all 5 nails i then do a full cure.x

Thanks guys, i will try that next time, i used to apply a base coat of clear on all five toes and cure, repeating on the other foot, then apply the white on all five toes but by the time i'd done the last toe it had all run so i spent a lot of time tidying up, i then applied another layer of clear, i did swipe with cleanse after every step but have read on here that other techs don't swipe until the end which i have now started doing but not sure which is right. I was taught to swipe after each step.

you can do it either way but if i was doing toes i would apply primer, bonder layer, cure and remove tacky layer with cleanse, apply brush on white and freeze cure each nail as i go for 10 seconds then do a full cure of all 5 toes, apply a layer of clear if you want to cure and buff then apply glaze n go or you could go straight to glaze n go and not apply a layer of clear over the white.its up to you.x

Hi,

The way that I would usually do a set of Hollywood toes would be:
*Do your usual prep routine (Sanitizing toes, removing cuticle, prepping nail plate, applying Nail Pure Plus)
*Apply Balance Bond Primer
*(If you need to extend the nail plate then apply tip at this point)
The way you do the next part is down to preference
*Apply a layer of Builder Clear, Cure and wipe away tacky layer
*Apply Balance Bond to the tip of the toes
*Apply Brush On French White to the big toe first. (Brush On French White is a thin gel and can be runny as it is meant to be polish like and to be applied in thin layers). Due to the thin consistency of the gel, I personally would use a dotting tool to create a smile line.
*Freeze that toe in a UV lamp for 20-30 seconds during which time I would be doing the other big toe and then freezing that as well.
* After the big toes have 'frozen' I would work on the rest of the toes 2 at a time, so I would do the next 2 toes on the right foot and freeze and then the next 2 toes on the left foot
*Once all the toes have been done I would cure for 2 minutes
* Finish with Glaze N Go and there is no tacky layer to remove

Some people find it easier to apply the Brush On French White First and then the Builder Gel.

Ashley xx
