I am doing a beauty course right now and have a nail assignment/portfolio.

The questions are:

Describe the main functions and role of the skin on the hands and feet.

^does this mean i have to describe the functions of the skin as in dermis, epidermis etc aswell as sensation, touch, sweat etc.. or both? i'm not sure where i can find info on just the hands and feet..

I also have to research 10 nail disorders and include

-symptoms
-development
-causes
-sites
-potential for cross infection
-contraindications
-medical treatments
-side effects of medical treatments
-significance for beauty therapist

Are there any good websites or books out there that deal with all of those answers?

It's due in 4 days and i'm rly stuck atm. thanks if anyone can help me

Nail Diseases and Disorders

have a good read on here hun,
Will take you while to soak it all in, but will be worth it in the end x

There are I think 5 main functions of the skin ( a+p wasnt my strongest point)
I would list and describe those,
Also for the purpose of the skin on the hands and feet, have a think about the difference in that skin type, to that of say....your face ...
Then when you have compared, describe why you think the difference is there...for what reason do we need that difference ? (hope that makes sense lol, it is 2am :) )

thanks!

it's taken me around 4 hours just to complete the 1st 3 questions, lol. now i just have the 10 nail disorders to go thru :S

A lot of the answers were actually in my handbook, that and a few websites it all came together nicely. :)

The appearance of the skin varies on different areas around the body according to the job it is requires to do. The depth of the epidermis is thicker on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands for example than on the eyelids where it is extremely thin. The hands and feet take a large amount of wear and tear and so the skin is thicker and tougher due to the friction. The soles of the feet and palms of the hands have no hair follicles; they have sweat glands and a high density of nerve receptors
