Hi all

I'm qualified in acrylic nails, manicures and pedicures and I'm in need of your help!

I've been working in a small salon for a couple of months. I've had a couple of complaints and received two training sessions from the owner which really did help and according to her I’m almost there!! For the last fortnight I’ve gone in and just sat around with nothing to do only answer the phone and deal with customers coming in. After sitting in the salon all day on Saturday and having only 1 client who is happy for me to continue working on, I was then told I’m not quiet up to speed and my technique needs more practice. I've been told to go away and practice like mad and come back to her in about 6 - 8 weeks and see where I’ve got too!!

I'm having a real problem persuading people to have them done!! Usual story, can't afford it, don't like the feeling of them on my nails etc .........

I did ask if we could do some kind of offer to encourage new customers to come to me ......... didn't like that idea.

Any suggestions ?????? I live out in south Notts

Hiyah

Invest in a nail trainer, this will help you on the days when you have nothing to do, also will help you with timing issues, you can pick up a 2nd hand one (Pardon the pun lol) on fleabay lol, what problems are you having??

i would second the nail trainer idea, only the other day i declared it was the best thing i've ever bought!

has helped me loads when i've got no guinea pigs!

:)

Have you got a nail trainer? I don't know where I would have been without mine. They sell them in Capital hair and beauty. It's like a real hand, fingers bend and everything, it's fab!
It's not quite the same as practising on a real hand but at least you can get you speed up and practice perfecting anything thing that you need to.

This is what really annoys me though. People say 'oh you need more experience/practice' but how are you supposed to get it when no one is willing to help? aarrgghhh.

Defo give that hand a go if you can get one chick xxx

Just looked on the website and it could be really usefull, you help them they help me kind of thing.

Thanks for the info on the hands, will look into that!!

Thanks everyone.

Someone on here, think it was geeg, suggested that rather than forking out on a hand trainer, you make fingers out of blu-tac. Just make them finger shaped and pop your nail on the end and you're good to go!

Where exactly are you in nottingham?
how long does it take for you to do it?
Do you want a payment from your Guinea Pig or you do it for free?

Hi

I'm not far from Bingham/Langar, it takes me up to 2 hours and yes i'd have to charge, obviously not full price but enough to cover my products and time.

You cant be that bad at them if its taking you up 2 hrs,
I've been doing it for nearly 3 years and i still allow myself 2 hrs per client for a new set so i can have a chat and make sure im happy with the set,
i can do them quicker if i need to but i like my clients to be relaxed not rushed,
i think the salon owner is putting a bit too much pressure on you, if i were the owner i would be asking you to practise and improve your technique but i wouldn't be too worried about your timing,
hope that helps to make you feel a bit better

I'd suggest not charging if you are really desperate for models. You are asking them to help you out so you can't really charge them (in my opinion). I think you would get more takers if they were free too. Good luck!
