i did a caflon course a coupe of years ago and bought a kit but have not done any yet as i need a licence but no call for ear piercing here,
the problem is my friends daughter has asked me to pierce her cartiage, obviously i wouldnt charge her as i dont have a licence but am trained and this would be a gift to her she is 13 is this too youngm and would i still be able to use a gun or as the law changed on this?

I thought cartlidge piercing had to be done witha needle not with a gun ?

on my certificate it says lobe and cartilage and i had to do a few cartilage piercings on the day too

Yes, so did I! I wouldn't touch this at all if I were you! :D

I still wouldn't do it my darling, she is too young and has growing to do still. She is less likely to look after it properly and if it did go wrong it wouldn't matter if you charged her or not, you would be blamed, maybe not sued but blamed! :D

The lobe is the soft area of the ear and consists of skin
covering connective fatty tissue. It is the area of the ear
which can be pierced. The healing period is 4-6 weeks.
❁ The cartilage area is a type of elastic tissue covered by
skin and fine hair. The area which can be pierced is the
flat upper part of the cartilage area indicated by the
diagram below. Due to the nature of piercing the cartilage
it is very important to advise the client that though
piercing this part of the ear can be safely done with the
Caflon Blu system, extra care must be taken in caring for
this type of piercing. The healing period is at least 12
weeks.
❁ The Caflon Blu Ear Piercing System is not specifically
designed to pierce any other part of the body and should
only be used to pierce the shaded areas of the ear
indicated in this diagram. n

i used to work in a piercers a good few years ago, i've also had a few piercings and have a keen interest in piercings and to be honest no piercers at all seem to recommend piercing that area with a gun. if you want to find out more about piercing that area i'd recommend you ask a few body piercing professionals for their oppinions. reguardless of if you do it for free the last thing you want is to know you have caused harm to somebody close to you. x

i have done body piercing for many years now and i would never use a gun on any piercing apart from the lobe. anything apart from the lobe you really do need to use a needle lot less damage.

i agree with the above about not doing it, i've heard that piercing the cartilage with a gun can cause it to collapse (not sure how true this is) and that it should only be done with a needle x

I had mine done with a gun and then found out later that it should be done with a needle. It had shattered my cartilidge and was very painful and didnt heal very well. I dont have any problems with it now but couldnt sleep on that side for a couple of years as it was uncomfortable to put pressure on the area. I did my ear peircing training and was told to never use a gun on this area. Plus it is very hard to get insurance for this. If i was yu i wouldnt and would send her to someone who uses a needle. Although i think that 13is quite young and as said before that she still has a lot of growing to do.

Hi!

I had the top of my ear pierced with a gun when i was about 12/13 years old at a claires accessories. That was 13 years ago mind! I had no problems with it at all, but when i did my ear piercing training i was told never to pierce the ear cartilidge with a gun, i guess the legislation must of changed.

I personally wouldn't do it as obviously there are dangers.

I don't think 13 is too young though, i first got my ear lobes pierced when i was 5 and have had numerous piercings all over my body ever since. I only wear a tongue and nipple bar these days though (not even earrings). I guess my parents were quite laid back about piercings.
