I am only fairly new to the trade, I have a regular client who comes for acrylics and on every visit she has broken off a corner of her nail, this only seems to be happening on her right hand (she is right handed ) on the left side. Very occasionally she has one on her other hand.

She told me that she had caught one and broke it off but said she cant remember doing the others. Is this something I am failing to do correctly ???? Also when I repair these chipped off sides, should I be replacing the whole thing again or use a form and sculpture on a new side and blend in to the existing product ?

Occassionaly she has also lost a few meaning the whole free edge from where i have put on a tip edge to free edge leaving only the product on the natural nail, the lady is on some strong medications for her athritis, is this hampering this at all, again any advice please im feeling disheartened. It doesnt happen to my other clients so Im at a loss.

Breaking nails and chipping nail enhancements has nothing whatever to do with taking medication.

Breaking corners could indicate that you are making the free edge just too thin ... it could also indicate that the client plays with her enhancements in her mouth (IMO the most likely the reason).

Why you should feel disheartened when only one client is experiencing these problems is beyond me to understand. On the other hand it tells me that it is quite clear and evident that the client is abusing her nails.

Your challenge now its to tell her so in a nice firm way and she will have to put up with paying for her repairs.

To your question .. yes sculpting is the easiest way to repair chips and breaks and they are strong .. you need not soak off and start again.

Thank you so much for your response it has made me feel alot better. I was told during training that some medications can be a bad effect, so there you go I have learnt something today ! I had a feeling she was doing something but what do you say when she says she doesnt know how shes done it ?? ha ha ha, cause im still new to the trade I automatically doubt my ability first, suppose I learn more self confidence with time.

Anyway thank you for your advise it was VERY much appreciated.
Kind Regards
Natalie

Medication and illness can have an effect on adhesion but you say the product is still on the nail so this is not an adhesion/lifting problem this is a product breaking problem.

Of course when new one doubts their own ability  (which is where a thorough knowledge of your products is POWER).

When she says she doesn't know how she has done it .. just smile and say , well one thing I do know is that something has done it and it wasn't me!! Tell her to be more careful in future or wear her nails shorter because it is obvious that she is catching them or 'playing' with them (which always indicates nails are too long)..
